Weekly Megathread: Lore / Cyberpunk World Discussion

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 03:00 AM PDT

Hey! This is our weekly Cyberpunk Lore discussion megathread.

With free talk (aka memes) being allowed across the weekend, discussions about the world of Cyberpunk can often be drowned out by memes & media posts across the weekend, so we hope this thread can help keep them going without being lost!

    Same sh*t different day...

Can't believe I've even decided to make this post but this sub is clearly out of control. Who am I? Nobody, you can either read it or leave, but I'll try keep this brief.

Some people in the sub honestly need to get a grip, you can check my post history I've personally had qualms with CDPR's practices but when is enough enough? There's no point in continuing to point out the obvious. The game was a disappointment, we get it, it's coming up to 4 months since release and I'm seeing the same threads being made just constantly bashing the game. I'm all for constructive criticism but when nothing is being added to these 'discussions' it just becomes a circle jerk tbh. That's not to say there aren't posts that are absolutely shilling for the game either but they don't seem as prevalent to me.

Why am I still here? Despite the flaws I want to see the game eventually do well, love the lore and atmosphere of NC and want to keep up to date with developments. Cyberpunk in of itself is a genre which hardly gets any quality representation in gaming. If you've seen anything in the gaming space that I could possibly be unaware of please send it my way.

Patch 1.2 - a lot of people seem to be disappointed with something that hasn't even released yet? We still have a few more days until the end of the month, it's fine to speculate when it reasonably should be released but honestly they can release it as and when they please, just be patient and don't get your hopes up.

Personally I'm in this for the long haul. I've had my jokes and hot takes but ultimately it's coming from a place of wanting to see this game do well. Don't know if there will EVER be another opportunity to see this genre represented to this magnitude again so I'm just going to see where this all ends up.

And yes, this has become just another post complaining about the sub, but what the hell, maybe enough of these and people will start to think before regurgitating the same tired threads. (and I do realise the irony here)

EDIT: Thanks for the awards my chooms!

Did anyone else lose a lot of respect for YouTubers because of this game?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 09:17 PM PDT

Going back to around the time of release there were several YouTubers hyping this game up. Some of them were just outright lying about game features (like romances you can only do based off life path) and others were getting early review copies and giving it around 9/10 if not 10/10. And the ones that didnt got completely shat on by the fans who were hyped.

Fast forward to today and every gaming news/reviews youtuber is absolutely dunking on CDPR and talking about what a massive disappointment CP77 was.

I've always been well aware that youtube gaming journalists thrive off hype and trends (seriously why are people still watching videos shit talking FO76 and Anthem?) But watching how several of them jumped on the hype bandwagon for this game, and then promptly jumped on the negative bandwagon, just made me lose all respect for just about every youtube reviewer I used to watch

It is hard to give Cyberpunk constructive criticism

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 12:41 PM PDT

...when so many things are broken. I get that this sub needs less hate, but how do we even start to talk about meaningful additions to the game like DLC, customization, transport systems etc. when basic combat skills do not work? And a lot of the flaws are not even addressed by the devs so far.

I love the game but if someone asked me what I wanted to be fixed first, I honestly wouldn't know what to say.

    Ya'll know what's comin'

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 10:11 PM PDT

Honestly all I want out of 1.12 is for items properly spawn. I'm so tired of seeing floating cigarettes, cellphones, chopsticks etc.

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 08:53 AM PDT

I understand that new content isn't to be expected, and I don't even care. Sure the glitches and bugs are annoying, but the biggest immersion breaker to me is physical objects not despawning correctly, or floating in the area. It's such a minor nitpick but my GOD does it take away from the immersion. It would also be really nice if they changed the way cars and NPC's spawn / despawn when the camera isn't looking at them. Super annoying to be enjoying a nice ride taking in all the sights only to look forward and have a car spawn in out of no where causing a crash that the driver just totally ignores. If these two problems get fixed then I'll gladly boot up and play a new play through. Bonus points if they make the far LOD for cars not look like paper 2D cutouts but instead just balls of light or something less outrageously ugly. The landscapes of this game are absolutely BEAUTIFUL, the huge mountains of trash all look incredible on my 2080s but the moment I look back at the city and see all those 2D cut out cars moving in a line it makes me wanna cry.

This is less of a credit towards the game and more towards the world Mike Pondsmith built, but I how realistic the slang is

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 06:06 PM PDT

At first, the slang in this game makes no sense but after a while you start to understand it all and don't even question it.

Most fictional universes don't even attempt this. Like Fallout, the timeline alternated from ours after the 1950s and then the nukes dropped in 2077 and 200 years later, everyone talks exactly as we do now. Halo and Mass Effect, set hundreds of years in the future and nothing about language or slang evolved, they talk like its 2006. New slang and sayings come around every few years and Cyberpunk understands that which makes the world feel so much more real because of it.

Cyberpunk has so much original slang that it truly feels like a real world that evolved separately from our own.

This is more of a credit to Mike and RTalsorian though, CDPR fucked up, but they did a good job implementing all that slang into their game.

There was a video titled " things you may not know about Cyberpunk 2077" on the official GoG YouTube channel, and an article on GoG.com.
Both got quickly removed, all happened in the last 30 minutes. Anybody happen to have got that video (downloaded or something)?

Read this quickly before it also gets removed! :D

Cdpr once again gave us a hype trailer and failed to deliver

    Posted: 26 Mar 2021 03:01 AM PDT

First we had a "heartfelt" (lol) explanation for why the game won't get a patch in February, instead moving it to March.

Then we got a shiny hype trailer for a patch

Now it's five days 'till the end of march and still not even a sign of a release date or information for the feburary March patch.

This near total radio silence except to feed us bullshit is getting beyond a joke now.
