Shoutout to Mike Pondsmith for creating such a beautifully disturbing world

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 09:08 PM PST

CDPR is more than likely going to exceed expectations when it comes to nailing the atmosphere and lore of Cyberpunk but let's not forget that none of this would be possible without Mike's amazing vision

There's a lot of credit to be given to forefathers like William Gibson and the aesthetic masterpiece that is Blade Runner, but Mike's specific vision for cyberpunk and the icon that is Johnny Silverhand is fucking brilliant, not to mention all of the creativity and inclusivity/diversity being a biproduct of a POC creator is an inspiration to any aspiring creative, minority or otherwise

Looking forward to diving into this incredibly fucked up world come tomorrow. Thanks for everything Mike, it really is a thing of beauty!!!

    I think I just witnessed a murder.

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 03:01 PM PST

Some dude commented on a cyberpunk post stating "Fun fact: Your game is going to die in less than a year if you don't add multiplayer"

So CDPR decided to use the Witcher's official handle and simply replied "Ok."

I don't think I've ever been so satisfied with I reply.

The way that Cyberpunk 2077 development and reviews have been handled signals that the mainstream gaming media needs to change their approach to reviewing games and game development needs to change

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 03:52 AM PST

I am beyond hyped for Cyberpunk, it's preloaded from GOG, just teasing me with that play button that works.

Regardless if you are a die hard fan or not, the way that reviews have been handled by the media is misguided, and the way that CD Projekt Red handled it is downright deceitful.

    • PC reviewers were not allowed to use their own footage
    • Tom's Hardware was asked to have their benchmarks removed due to poorly implemented DRM
    • No console copies were sent out for review

In the latest trailer published yesterday, the trailer published two weeks ago, and even trailers from 5 months ago. They all end with the same thing, "Pre-Order".

They are actively marketing and asking for you to pre-order. Regardless of Day 0/1/2/3 patches, they are asking you to pre-order something that comes as a physical item for most people getting it.

When Cyberpunk 2077 went gold, then they should have had the game in a state that it would be sent to reviewers. Instead from leaked footage like this on the Xbox One S. mirror mirror mirror (Lots of mirrors I am expecting this all to get DCMAed). By leaked footage I mean that this is gameplay footage of the data that shipped with the physical copy for the Xbox, uploaded before release day. So if someone lives out in the sticks with barely good internet or do not have reliable access to the internet then that is the game they have.

We can see that the game was not ready to ship, at all, period.

Things need to change, this is one of the most hyped games I have ever seen, but I feel so many people on the PS4 and Xbox One are just being lied to and are set for disappointment. Some probably will be so disappointed that they will be in disbelief and think something else is wrong.

Things need to change, even if it is an industry wide gentlemen's agreement.

    • Reviews should be made from the gold standard
    • Publishers should get the review copy a month before release
    • Every launch platform should have review copies distributed

In addition to that, gaming media should,

    • Not publish a review of a game they have not had adequate time to review and give it a score
    • Reviews should not take into account patches coming in the future

It's just insane the amount of hype this game has with it's troubled development of being delayed three times, people working six day work weeks since September (with the game being delayed again during that period), reports of people looking physically ill making a video game. And for all that work, the videos above are what shipped on that disc.

Feel free to brigade, doxx, and downvote, but I've said my piece and this game's success or failure is made with lies and blood. Fitting for the world it portrays.

    ‘Twas the night before cyberpunk

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 03:53 PM PST

'Twas the night before Cyberpunk, when all through the house not a choomba was stirring, not even a mouse. The Cyberwarewere hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that Mike pondsmith soon would be there. The psychos were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of Johnny Silverhand danced in their heads. And CD Red in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap.

When out on the roof there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, grabbing my shotgun, and threw up the sash. The advertisements on the breast of the new-fallen snow gave the lustre of midday to objects below, when, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a shiny red hypercar and eight tiny gun brands.

With a little old driver, the legend the myth, I knew in a moment it must be Mr.Pondsmith. More rapid than eagles, his coursers they came, and he whistled and shouted and called them by name: "Now Budget Arms! Now Araska! Now, Militech and Kang Tao! On, Malorian! On, Tsunami! On, Rostavic and Constitutional Arms! To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall! Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky so up to the house-top the coursers they flew, with the hypercar full of guns, and Mr.Pondsmith too. And then, in a twinkling, I felt from above the stomping and thwamping of a man with such a sound. As I drew in my head and was turning around, down the chimney Mr.Pondsmith came with a bound.

He was dressed all in denim and leather, from his head to his foot, and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot. A bundle of guns he had flung on his back, and he looked like a peddler just opening his pack. His shades--how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, and the beard on his chin was as white as the snow. The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, and the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath. He had a broad face and a little round belly, that shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, and I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself. A wink of his eye and a twist of his head soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread. No more delays, Night City wires now retired, and Launched his masterpiece, then turned with a jerk. And laying his finger aside of his nose, and giving a nod, up the chimney he fired. He sprang to his car, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight, "Happy Cyberpunk to all, and to all a good night!"

Do not look into the comment sections of Cyberpunk videos

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 10:17 AM PST

Don't be an idiot like me. I scrolled through the comment section of the latest Cyberpunk trailer, hoping to see if anyone knew the name of the background music, and almost immediately I found some antiquated fucking beaver posting the ending of the game

This particular user is a kid, evident by his profile pic where he's sitting next to his Lego Treehouse set, so I should take his claim for a grain of salt, but still, now I'm going in with a certain expectation in mind, because there's still a chance he's right.

All in all, don't be stupid like me, if you go into the comments then know that you risk having everything spoiled.

How to get the most out Role Playing in a Storytelling game

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 01:59 PM PST

I put together the following for myself and friends. I find this framework helps me enjoy RPGs more deeply. Thought y'all might appreciate it and have your own wisdom to contribute!

    Founding Principles of RPGing:

    1. No metagaming -- take actions based only on what your character would reasonably know.
    2. Make choices your character would make based on your character's motives.
    3. Similarly, put aside the gamer instinct to minmax everything. A 'wrong' decision authentic to your character is better than a 'right' decision your V wouldn't make.
    4. Aesthetics (clothing, vanity cars/weapons, body mods) are allowed to be about immersion instead of raw stats. A weeb V might prefer a kamishimo and just never getting hit to full body armor.
    5. Invest in stats that encourage a playstyle matching your V's personality.

These are all ways of saying, prioritize storytelling to optimizing. Storytelling games are unique in that you doing a Good Job as a player is compatible with Bad Outcomes occurring for your character.

    Character Design:

Put some thought into who your V is as of the moment before the game starts. Maybe even write it down if you are a nerd like me. Your character is allowed to change over the story arc, that's the whole point. Discovering who your character is through the story Cyberpunk presents. But, what will make your traversal different than everyone else's is your V's initial conditions.Things to consider:

    1. Backstory. What are a few foundational moments in V's life?
    2. Eccentricities. What makes your V different from a stock template character?
    3. Driving forces. What overarching moralities and needs factor into V's decision making?
    4. Flaws. Superman is a shit character. What does your V struggle with? What selfish impulses do they have? What baggage are you as a player prepared to weigh down your shiny character with?
    5. Unpopular opinions. How does your V's view of the world differ from another in your life path? What might they keep to themselves for fear of judgement by other characters?
    6. Pain. Did your V experience trauma that impacts their worldview?
    7. Pleasure. What does your V like to do when not burning cities? What joy do they find while burning cities?

Edit: Didn't expect so many Superman fans :P. I concede that The Superman has more depth than I suggested. I only mean to disparage the tendency to make wish-fulfillment stories using piles-of-good-stuff characters. Letting your beautiful character suck in a few ways is an easy way to add emergent depth.

A Message From CDPR in the latest trailer

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 09:29 AM PST

Yes, the gamespot review was not good or even well thought out, BUT you DO NOT harass the reviewer with death threats and misogynistic comments on her ig

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 09:27 AM PST

We can all agree the gamespot review had many glaring problems, but the comments that I have been seeing on her ig page? Telling her to kill herself , calling her a dishwasher, do these guys really want so bad to make the world's view of gamers right? I love the game, but ITS JUST A GAME. You don't go around telling people to kill themselves because they didn't like it or had issues with it, however absurd their claims. Have an ounce of freaking decency.

    Twas The Night Before Cyberpunk

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 05:26 PM PST

Twas the night before Cyberpunk and all through the sub; The mods gave all the spoilers a good scrub.

The reviews had dropped, complaining of bugs; Crazy performance and frame rate chugs.

But one thing was sure, with scores 80s and above; Night City was one big project of love.

So with baited breath as we count down the hours; Choombas fantasize about our cyber powers.

So put off your homework, kiss your family goodbye; Because tomorrow it's time to wake up Samurai.

I feel like a kid again.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 04:14 AM PST

I haven't been this excited for a game since I was like, twelve. I even went to bed at a reasonable hour so I could be up today, bought a few energy drinks, took 3 days off of work, and I'm grinning like an idiot. I know it's going to be buggy, I expect glitches up to and including Bethesda tier, and it hasn't hampered my excitement in the slightest. Even if I know it's gonna take a whole ass twelve hours from now, I'm rewatching the Night City Wire episodes and listening to lore breakdowns.

This sub is a let down right at the end

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 06:05 PM PST

After seeing all of the positive reviews I was hoping to come to this sub and pass the time with other folks who were excited about the game.

Instead we get a cesspool where a game gets overwhelmingly high review scores and people are still complaining and every other post is filled with people suggesting the game is going to be some kind of massive let down.

I honestly don't understand what people were expecting/hoping?

If a 91 score isn't enough to satisfy people and people still say it's going to be a shit show what reviews would have satisfied you?

So far it sounds like the game has some bugs.

1 reviewer didn't like the stealth, 14 other reviewers stated they did almost their entire runs in stealth because it was so satisfying.

1 reviewer said the game is 20-30 hours while another one said they short changed themselves and b lines the story and it still took 36 hours.

But one thing all of the reviewers seem to agree on is the game seems to be impressively fun.

    So what's the problem?

Please don’t think the Day 1 Patch will be a miracle

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 03:44 AM PST

Guys please don't think the day 1 patch will be a miracle

I mean the game could come out and be a bug-less masterpiece so who knows but reviewers are saying pretty much the only negative is the bugs, which there seems to be a lot of. In fact I want to be wrong but I doubt I will be in this case

I see many comments saying "Day 1 patch will fix most things" and although I live the optimism, I doubt it'll fix the copious amount of bugs detailed

I'm still expecting many bugs and playing on the Xbone one, there will be spade fulls of it and that's fine I guess

Just don't hype yourself thinking it will be flawless, we all want it to be but CDPR has been very cautious about reviewers own footage and that speaks volumes

I'm super, super hyped and my friends honestly have wanted me to shut up about it for the past 6 months so I'm as excited as you guys, it's just I also want to be realistic

Edit: It's not a huge problem if there's bugs. I've played through Fallout 4 multiple times and played 1000 hours of Ark so I'm used to it, just saying we shouldn't expect bugs to magically disappear
