    Cyberpunk, a surprisingly slow burn

    Posted: 25 Nov 2020 01:00 PM PST

"Cyberpunk 2077 is a surprisingly slow burn with an immense amount of options and depth."

I am overjoyed to hear this. It's easy to be blinded by the slick neon aesthetic, gratuitous sex, and high tech gear that are iconic of the cyberpunk genre. But if you watch the classics, that's not what they're actually about.

Anyone who has seen the Bladerunner movies or GITS knows that while there are some flashy action sequences, the meat of the movies consist of slow, introspective scenes.

The Major seeing someone with the exact same body model as her in a sequence of lingering City shots.

K staring up at a massive advertisement hologram of the woman he fell in love with.

And of course Roy Batty's "Tears in the Rain" speech just after saving the life of a man sent to end his short life.

To me, these are the moments that make cyberpunk such a fascinating genre. And it looks like CDProjektRed feels the same, even if it hasn't been reflected in the marketing.

    What do y'all think?
