I can't understate how much an SSD upgrade "fixed" Cyberpunk on PS4 Pro for me Posted: 02 Sep 2021 05:33 PM PDT Immediate improvements include: Button presses actually WORK when pressed -- Radio stations, world map, menus, weapon wheel etc. It all just does what it's supposed to, without having to wait interminable amounts of time for the data to stream in and out. Same goes for changing camera views in cars. The world loads in significantly faster, with a higher level of detail at (almost) all levels, and very little noticeable pop-in -- while it's still not quite "next-gen" level of world detail (CPU and GPU can only do so much even with an ultra fast SSD), for the first time I feel like I can just move through the city at my own speed, and the city will just... work. It's hard to convey in writing just how much better it is than before. I made a post when 1.3 dropped showing how it basically turned all of Night City into a shitshow of pedestrian pop-in, dead streets, entire buildings rendering at lowest LODs no matter what, etc. Well, the SSD upgrade solves all those problems instantly. The spawn logic is still weird (seems like a hard-coded memory optimisation where NPCs can spawn when you turn away and then look back). But more NPCs seem to remain persistent while I'm in a given area, roads seem busier, and the world itself seems to conceal its artifice much better, in that large blocks of level geometry, lighting, materials, etc can all load in by the time you've fixed your eyes on them. Combat and movement feel much slicker, with less hitches, frame drops, and lost inputs, etc -- combat could be weirdly hit or miss on an HDD (figuratively and literally). But now I can sprint around patrol areas cutting up fools with my trusty katana, and the game barely misses a beat. This applies even while transitioning between two distinct areas. So the new area can load in without combat suffering from hitches as a result. Save games load up (and save) significantly faster, and fast travel especially -- dying no longer feels like a huge pain in the ass with the resulting load times. Now when I die I'm back in the action really quick. The autosaves are also faster, and cause less hitches/stuttering. This was a real problem before since when driving a car it would sometimes autosave every minute or so, and each time I'd often slam my car into something coz the screen kept juddering and freezing. No more! The sounds of Night City have returned! -- 1.23 and 1.3 kinda broke the game's soundscape on PS4 Pro's standard HDD. I'd often drive into a different district or neighborhood, get out the car, and the city would be SILENT for a full 30 seconds or so, and then layers of sound would play one at a time. I could literally hear the data streaming bottlenecks. It was the sonic equivalent of horrendous pop-in. But on SSD I can cruise the city on a motorbike, and for the most part, the various sounds of each street will be faithfully produced. The SSD needs to be experienced through headphones to fully appreciate the heavy lifting its doing. Most of all though, the game just feels "richer" somehow. -- That doesn't mean it doesn't still have its problems. The CPU bottlenecks still lead to some weird compromises in spawn logic, collision physics, AI, etc. But the world itself feels more persistent in a sense, like it can actually handle what you throw at it. I was really impressed also by how striking Night City looks at nighttime now, since the pop-in is minimised, and lights on buildings (including signage, neon trims, etc.) render in much higher quantities, at greater distance, with minimal to zero lag-time. Along with the improved soundscapes and general sense of responsiveness to inputs, Night City finally feels like a space I can just "be" in, without the constant reminders it's being powered by creaking old hardware. To be clear, this doesn't let CDPR off the hook completely. SSDs may be more affordable to the mass market these days, but it's still quite an investment if you're ONLY getting it "to make cyberpunk not run like shit". For the players who are stuck on the standard PS4 HDDs (or God forbid, the PS4 Slim), I highly doubt any software update will do for performance what an SSD upgrade did for PS4 Pro. It's just clear that this was a game intended for SSD-based data streaming. I'd almost written off Patch 1.3 as an abject failure in post-launch support. But it's now making sense to me why CDPR "recommend SSD storage" for CP2077 on last gen consoles. And I'm appreciating now why 1.3 is actually a step in the right direction -- it's just that the cost of entry to seeing those benefits on last gen hardware can be prohibitive for many. Still, if your aim is to make Cyberpunk feel, look and sound smooth, snappy, and responsive... then an SSD upgrade on PS4 Pro is really the #1 solution for it. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Sep 2021 09:46 AM PDT So I started a new playthrough, I'm now at Jackie's funeral, as much as his death was touching but I still insist that taking out the part where I'm supposed to know and get attached to Jackie is a big letdown and a missed opportunity, instead we got a montage of whatever happened in that period. I did not touch the game until last Week.. (minor spoilers) Posted: 02 Sep 2021 02:57 AM PDT ...and just finished my first playthrough (street kid) and will soon start corpo. So basically i missed out on the original state of the game. There are still a few bugs here and there and some things need a little polish, but overall i rly enjoyed the game a lot. The outstanding soundtrack, the atmosphere, the design of the City and the amazing graphics just did it for me. I also have the strong impression that i did hang out with Keanu Reeves. Meeting johnny silverhand was definitely one of the game's Highlights for me. So far I was too lazy to install the 3rd person mod and believe that the game definitely should have that by default. The traffic seems to be wonky sometimes compared to gtaV and not being able to shoot while driving was weird at first. Again, i don't know exactly in which state the game was on release day or how it feels currently on other Systems, for me it runs fine. Just wanted to share 🤷🏼♀️ [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Sep 2021 08:55 AM PDT This concerns one of the endings and something that CDPR probably overlooked. Spoilers in effect. Ok so I'm doing the final assault on Saka Tower with Rogue and I notice the grab icon popping up whenever I'm behind her. For gits and shiggles I pressed X and grabbed Rogue in a chokehold. And apparently you can just straight up murder Rogue with a broken neck. She's dead, I can loot her body, but funnily enough no game over. What the hell, Johnny. 🤣 [link] [comments]
