History of the Net and Rogue AI

History of the Net and Rogue AI

    Rache Bartmoss

---Bartmoss And The death Of The Old Net---

Before the Fourth Corporate War, the Net was a vast global network capable of transmitting and storing all kinds of data, from unprotected public files to the most heavily encrypted corporate secrets. To interact with the data, you had to access the Net. You could have done this the old-fashioned way with a terminal or computer, or the quicker and more effective way by using a cybermodem and its interface. A cybermodem was the way to experience the Net in all three dimensions-some even claim four dimensions, because time was also a factor since the user could interact with data much faster than with a traditional connection. In 2077 the global Net is no more-at least not as a global communications platform. It was destroyed by corporate attacks, rogue AIs, and the parting gift of one dead man.

Rache Bartmoss was the most brilliant and talented netrunner of our age. He was also the most paranoid. Rumors claim that he was an author of the infamous Demon and Hound series of programs, designed to locate and kill enemy netrunners. There are so many varying accounts of who he was and how and when he died that no one can be sure of the real story. Some say that his body died in 2021 when he was nailed by some black ICE, or simply from dehydration and malnutrition during one of his prolonged Net ops. In this version of the story, his mind survived thanks to the top-tier life support he had in his apartment. No one knew where he lived, so no one could take care of him. His essence slowly faded, though he still remains one of the best hackers in the Net.

Another rumor concerned Rache allegedly fighting for one of the sides in the Shadow War period of the Fourth Corp War, when mercenary netrunners attacked corporate data fortresses, unleashing legions of deadly programs. He was so good that one of the corporations decided to take him out by any means at their disposal. When they had traced his last approximate position after months of hunting, it's said that they evaporated the whole area with a direct hit from some sort of orbital satellite-mounted device. Did I mention that Bartmoss was paranoid? No one knows if that was because he was always nuts or if he lost his mind during his years spent in the cryogenic freezer, but he was prepared for his death. He knew that when the day finally came, he wanted to be sure that his enemies and his beloved Net would all go down with him.

A complex system similar to the Cold War-era Dead Hand released Bartmoss's most deadly creations into the Net. In the very moment that Rache's body was obliterated and his life-support system stopped sending the delay codes, all hell broke loose. His most advanced Demons, Hellhounds, and RABIDS went off, crashing systems, liberating and corrupting ISs, and frying the synapses of most of the netrunners who were jacked into the Net at the time. Melting data fortresses were torn apart by self-aware viruses, their content permanently lost, altered, randomly swapped, or corrupted. By the time government and major corporations were able to implement their emergency protocols, the damage was done and the Old Net was lost forever.

    Rogue AI

    ----

[RABIDS]: Roving Autonomous Bartmoss Interface Drones, were a unique Bartmoss creations. PRograms designed to infiltrate systems, slice their data, and distribute it randomly throughout cyberspace. At first perceived as a mere nuisance, they showed their full dreaded potential in the few hours following Bartmoss's death. Planted patiently for years as "sleepers" in cyberspace, they started to swap files and collapse whole data fortresses. It not only hastened the crippling of the Net, but also released all sorts of confidential information to the public, causing chaos as it incriminated politicians and global corporations alike.

    ----

    Cyberspace

    ---Mayhem In The Net---

For the next few years, The Netwatch Corporation attempted to rebuild the world's networks with the aid of the European Commission. Many parts of the Net were so infected that logging into them would instantly crash entire systems. The aggressive rogue artificial intelligences- some of which were former combat AIs-hunted the reckless netrunners who explored the ruins of cyber-space to retrieve last data. It was then that NetWatch decided to back down, and the Blackwall project was born-a night-impenetrable wall of black ICE that to this day seperates human-usable Network from realms under the AIs' control. It's disturbing how very little is known about its foundations, and some people claim that the building the Blackwall was only possible because the AIs were also interested in its construction, leaving them in control of vast abandoned regions of the Net.

No humans and no artificial constructs are allowed to cross the Blackwall from either side, but that doesn't stop overcurious netrunners and dangerous AIs from trying. It's worth remembering that the Blackwall is totally invisible and does not necessarily form a continuous barrier. It often splits old Network systems in half, leaving them simultaneously available to both humans and AIs. Usually neither side is aware of the other, which often leads to tales of "haunted" data fortresses and "possessed" cybersystems.

    NetWatch

    ---The Net Today---

In 2077 the human-controlled Net (sometimes called the shallow Net) is a fractured space, consisting predominantly of separated local hubs. These hubs are primarily national, state, or city Nets that are amalgams of public access forums and private company domains, and are used for internal communication, work, recreation, and advertising. NetWatch rebuilt most of the European network, but has recently lost some credibility in Europe after allegations that they bargained with the ISs during the Blackwall construction. The company is currently in the process of renetworking North America at the request of the NUS president, Rosalind Meyers.

The Old Net, also known as the deep Net, is a ruined, dangerous place where a few dare to venture. Large portions are separated by the Blackwall, but there are entire regions that are abandoned (with the exception of some of Bartmoss's creations that have lurked there since the war). Nevertheless, the Old Net holds unique temptations, as it hides old databanks and allows for true long-distance communication for those who can navigate it

What mods(if any) do you use?

    Posted: 17 May 2021 07:03 PM PDT

I've been playing without any mods, but I know there are some out there, are there any worth getting and using? I'd be particularly interested in cloth mods, ones that let me pick what pieces of clothing are visible,or ones that let you change how a good piece of clothing looks? But keeps the rarity and mod slots? Or any that improves the game in general, ones that modders made that help the stability or glitches in the game?

Completely overhaul CP77 into a hardcore experience with theses mods

Completely overhaul CP77 into a hardcore experience with theses mods

I'm a fan of immersive and "realistic" experiences, hardcore games like STALKER or (in some aspects) Escape From Tarkov hit the spot for me. When it comes to CP77, I always felt like the game had underneath potential to deliver something that I could like, but in the base game it was completely submerged under a very intrusive UI and the bullet sponges ennemies. A hardcore mod has been promised by CDPR before the release, but has never been delivered.

Fortunately, modders took the matter into their own hands. We can now get rid of most of the unnecessary and intrusive UI, have a more natural TTK, balance some game mechanics and add a bunch of fonctionnalities. All of this helps to create a more hardcore experience.

    Gameplay

You won't notice the UI being gone simply because you don't need it anymore. Most ennemies dies within a few bullets (even while using low calibers such as this pistol) so no need for healthplates, levels, damage nubers above ennemies heads. Same goes for you, you die within 1/3 bullets, if you get shot and youre not dead, you need to heal. It's simple as that, no need for health bars.

Some guns have screens with ammo count, this holosight can be installed on every gun and display all you need.

So we now have a functionnal gameplay and our screen is free from a ton of useless crap, the game is way more immersive that way. It's not for everybody, because if you don't play carrefuly, you will die constantly. Ennemies are no longer showed trough walls or on the minimap (I made that change after recording the gameplay), you notice a huge difference between the base game who hold your hand constantly.

The game can actually be challenging this way, I died more playing like this for 2 hours than I ever did on Very Hard on the base game.

Now, let's get to the mods. Don't forget to endorse the mods you liked, theses guys are doing this for free so be thankfull.

    I. Prerequisite

    Cyber Engine Tweaks by awpsoleet

Scripting framework for modders and quality of life fixes.

    Redscript by jac3km4

    Compiler for Cyberpunk2077 scripts

    II. Gameplay

    Realistic Combat Overhaul by cortlong50

Made to remedy the (bad) bullet sponge, and make the need to upgrade your weapons and wear viable armor during playthrough turning the game from a looter shooter to the hardcore RPG that I wanted.

    Better Netrunning by finley243

Makes netrunner gameplay more difficult by preventing quickhacks until the network is breached.

    Advanced Control by hawkidoki

Toggle Walk, Toggle Holster, Lean Left/Right, Cycle Grenades, & Untrack Quest

Always First Equip by djkovrik. Optionnal, cool for immersion.

Repeats FirstEquip animation each time you equip your weapon or press a hotkey.

    Mute the sound by raydess

Disables intrusive music and UI sounds (Combat, Stealth, UI jingle, Scan mode, Inventory, Menu, etc)

    III. UI

Limited HUD by djkovrik. At least No Enemy Highlight, scroll down the file page to find it, it's in Miscellaneous files.

Hides main HUD widgets by default and shows them only on certain events (configurable). Adds in-game minimap toggle hotkey, also has optional files to tweak minimap zoom and position.

    Non-Hideable Hud Removal by XxCRAZYPOTATOxX.

Hides various hud elements that are not possible to hide in game.

Muted markers by djkovrik. I suggest you to hide every environnemental highlights and hide ennemies on the minimap.

Allows to tweak some interaction, shards and loot markers visibility behavior.

Circle minimap by ctxrlsec. Optionnal but less intrusive than the default one.

Superior UI by Inuktiplater. Same as above.

    IV. In-game options

    yes

    V. Issues

On my side the only issue I noticed is related to the 2 mods by djkovrik aiming to remove the highlights (both ennemies and interactions) they just started showing up again and won't go away. The dev has been noticed, let me know if you have a similar issue.

VI. Things I would like to see (for modders)

    • Basic survival mechanics with food/water/sleep management but that would suggest CDPR making eating and drinking animations in order to be immersive and for some reason I don't have much faith in that :) More here.
    • There is still some UI elements that we can't get rid off (dialogues on top of NPCs, the useless XP gain on the left, the objectives updates on the left, the stance status bottom right)
    • Debuff related to using too much meds, maybe some kind of addiction with side effects if the player is using too much booster.
    • Increased volume of ennemies footspets. They are currently completely silent and it's not a good thing because now that all the assistance is gone we are relying on visuals and audio to spot our ennemies.
    • There is an annoying sound that plays when ennemies are in the process of spotting you, can't get rid off it as of now.
    • Flashlight with keybind
    • Keybind that makes V spit some voice-lines for roleplaying such as exemple below

    https://reddit.com/link/nedvko/video/yn40bytu4oz61/player

    • Rebalance of skills to fit the hardcore experience.
    • Maybe ? Introduce limiations to saves. Lost of gear on death, player needs to subscribe to Trauma Team to have his gear back.

Turning my V into a 3D-Printabel model, your thoughts?

    Posted: 17 May 2021 11:52 PM PDT

So i got the game last week and fell in love instantly. Now i got the idea in my head to get a 3D printed model of my V, but am not really sure how to get there. I saw someone doing that with a photogrammetry software and the camera mode, but the model needed lots of cleanup in modeling software. The other idea i had was ripping the model directly out of the game with a software like 3D ripper DX, but i'm not sure if that works with Cyberpunk and the new DirectX version. Does anyone have experience with something like that and could give me some tips?

    Patch news?

    Posted: 17 May 2021 10:54 AM PDT

Anyone heard anything about if they working on more patches for the game? I mean... obviously/I hope so, but any news about if/when they will release another one? The 'latest' patch was a great step in the right direction but it super needs more and I'm still holding off on playing more of the game until another patch.
