Am I the only one who feels sad thinking about what the game could have been.

    Posted: 09 May 2021 05:48 PM PDT

When it first released, I was pissed and angry at how luckluster the game was in contrast to what we were promised, on how trust was betrayed and faith was lost.

But now if the game ever crosses my mind, I don't feel angry or pissed, I feel disappointed and sad thinking about what the game could've been, not what it is now.

    Anyone else like that?

All the time and money just for developing the Night City?

    Posted: 09 May 2021 07:27 PM PDT

I have a feeling like they spent most of the time just trying to make the city, you know, buildings, streets, etc. And don't get me wrong, all of that looks amazing, but they also forgot to make interesting things to do in the city.

Even though the city is buzzing with crowd and cars it somehow feels empty and stale. There is no changes on the map, no gang interactions, everything is the same as the first time you started the game. CDPR always portrayed themselves as someone who is trying to push the gaming forward, trying to do something new and set the new standards. It feels like they put all their creativity in art department making the Night City, it's so wast and detailed making every other aspect of the game lacking in both creativity and in details.

I'm not saying that the rest of the game is bad, just that it feels like the main focus was making the city than developing and implementing systems last minute. Yes the Night City is maybe the most impressive looking gaming world in pictures, but as soon as you walk/drive through it a bit it feels emptier compared to even some previous CDPR games.

    Any thoughts?

Pawel Sasko *8 years ago* - What's your opinion on what he said?

I feel like CDPR failed with side story/gigs quest structure compared to Witcher 3

    Posted: 09 May 2021 07:30 AM PDT

Dont get me wrong i loved the cinematic mainstory scenes and questslines. They were fun and very immersive in first person. Problem starts with gigs and smaller sidequests. They are just not memorable at all even if they have good story behind them. In W3 you meet quest giver have a chat with him and then decide what to do with it. It feels very organic and u get to know these interesting side characters.

Here in Cyberpunk it is all abt getting a call from a fixer and thats it. You lose all introducion to the questline u just get simple text with info. When they let the story go slower and let you meet quest giver contact u get great sidequests like Dream on or Sinnerman! It is huge waste of potential and cyberpunk setting when 80% of your quest is fixer ( that u dont even know that good bec u dont have to meet any of them) calling you and explaining everything. Played this Gig where u have to kill (or run out of city) Valentino gang boss bec father of his gf wants him gone. In Witcher 3 they would let u go to the father and hear his story first. Simple thing like that would make the questline much better than fixer telling you everything.

Witcher 3 had so many memorable smaller questlines where in cyberpunk all u have is sinnerman and paralez one (outside of main romance cast of characters and rogue/johnny). We needed way more of multilevel sidequests where u actually meet interesting ppl involed in that story. Fixers calling u all the time and giving generic info for questline was a huge mistake from CDPR.

    Night city is incredible.

    Posted: 09 May 2021 11:05 AM PDT

    It is.

I'm on my second run of this game and I'm glad that I'm playing it again after December. The first time I was just racing to finish the story and some side missions.

This time around I'm looking carefully at every side mission, analyzing the environment, analyzing the mission they've set up and how to maneuver it if you're playing non-lethal and sneaking around choking and dumping people.

And whenever I'm driving around, I see how carefully NC has been designed. I don't know about any one else, but wherever I'm in the map, and I just happen to look up while driving/riding, the city looks great as if that particular moment was scripted to look good at that particular moment.

Apart from that, if you look at the environment and the literature (including the ads and graffiti) within the game, you'll notice a pattern that there was a LOT of content that was just left out because they were on a deadline.

The game is ambitious af. And if for the love of God they decide to actually finish it (like really finish it), it still has the potential to be one of the greatest games ever made. Unfortunately, from what I've seen and observed till now, it'll never be close to RDR2 level of attention to detail.

But Night City is still the best city that I've seen designed in an open-world game.

TL;DR - this game could have been INCREDIBLE if it had 1-2 years more of development time. But Night City (just the city) is very well designed.
