What if Cyberpunk had focused more on cyberpsychosis and malevolent AI? *Spoilers*

    Posted: 19 Apr 2021 06:46 PM PDT

The more I think about Cyberpunk 2077, a game that I enjoyed but moved on from quickly, the more it occurs to me how poorly the game took advantage of CDPR's biggest strengths as developers. While the Witcher games let them go wild with incredible monsters and surreal storylines, their approach to Cyberpunk was very tame by comparison. I can't help but wonder how the game would have turned out if a greater focus was placed on an almost post-human society that was losing control of itself due to the overuse of cybernetics and the intrusion of rouge AI.

Imagine an alternate version of the game where:

-The Jefferson Peralez questline (arguably the best in the game), is part of the main story and took place much earlier, introducing the concept of shadowy AI altering the minds of unwilling human hosts.

-After that questline concludes: Random NPCs on the streets could be gripped by a bout of cyberpsychosis at any time, as they lose control of their cybernetics and their bodies transform into contorted monstrosities. The world would feel much more dynamic, and CDPR would have been able to put their enemy design talent to real use.

-To investigate the phenomenon: V and his/her allies dive into the minds of recently turned cyberpsychos using braindance tech, leading to terrifying encounters with various rouge AI. These would be unique boss fights against truly otherworldly foes from beyond the blackwall.

-As the storyline progresses, the city becomes more chaotic and dangerous. Cops and gangs are struggling to keep control of neighborhoods where anyone can shift from a hapless pedestrian to a vicious killing machine in the blink of an eye (which seemed like the core idea of the first trailer). NPC interaction would have been much more diverse and interesting as a result, with fights potentially breaking out at any time.

As it is, Cyberpunk is a game that flirts with most of these concepts in it's strongest moments, but fails to capitalize on them outside of a handful of quests. I hope the eventual DLC will feature bold alterations to the world like these, but I also can't help but feel a bit disappointed when I think about what CDPR could have already crafted if they'd played into their strengths.

Thoughts? Should CDPR play SOMA and Observer as research for the DLC?

The reason Johnny’s pistol is far more powerful in flashbacks (theory)

    Posted: 19 Apr 2021 11:31 AM PDT

It could be because it's a memory, not an accurate recollection of events: Johnny probably remembers himself and the pistol to be far more powerful than what it actually is.

    It's Frasier. It's Cyberpunk. It's CYBERFRUNK 2077. Here's the full cinematic trailer.

Finally, I managed to lead to an unscript fight between gangs! The AI reacts to and fights against another gang - the limited range that opponents can move away from their headquarters spoils the effect a bit, but hey, it's always something!

Loving the recent improvements to the game!

After the most recent update to the game I decided to reinstall and continue on with my second play through as a level 25 Nomad (on Very Hard mode).

I have to say, letting this game sit for 4 months after finishing the initial playthrough was a great idea. Coming back to it after the most recent patch 1.21 seems super refreshing. When I played it initially I was a little bit let down by the poor performance (fps) I was experiencing (decent rig too - 2070 S and i7-9700k, 32 GB RAM); I think it was really important to find graphic settings that worked well for me on a 1440p display and I found some that work EXCELLENT on this rig. Although turning on RTX seems to considerably tank the fps pretty bad so I play with it off and still everything looks so realistic and popping at 1440p.

My settings at 1440p: medium textures, everything on medium (or low) except for color precision and level of detail (LOD) which I set to high, RTX off with DLSS set to Quality. I noticed that these settings shouldn't be changed or adjusted in-world, instead I've found making graphic changes on the initial boot up of the game and then clicking "continue" seems to lead to a more stable rendering of the world with little-to-no stutters even deep in the city. The game just seems to run so much better now than it did before and everything is so beautiful and smooth. I don't know if this is similar to other people's experience, but it feels a lot better to me.

Finally I feel like I can now be fully immersed in the world of Night City without the issues of prominent bugs or major issues with performance. I think it really just depends on your graphic settings and your resolution (sorry console players!).

I for one appreciate CDPR's commitment to quality and the amount of work they are continuing to do to further enhance their game. It's really a magical game with so much to explore and enjoy so just wanted to spread the love and positive energy for this amazing game.

Enjoying the Night City life my choomabs! :)

Just wanted to say I’m enjoying this game a lot.

Series X user here. I held off playing this, planning on waiting for the next Gen update. However, I got bored playing The Outer Worlds, and I figured what the hell, I'll give it a shot.

I immediately got sucked in. The world, story, atmosphere and gameplay are fantastic!

Yeah, there's bugs, and yeah, the pedestrian AI is awful, but that's stuff I've been used to in open weld games in general. Actively playing the game is a pleasure.

So far, it's 9/10 from me. Hopefully the game doesn't nosedive in quality. Looking forward to replaying with the next gen upgrade!
