Regarding Spoilers and Review Copies - Please Read!

    Hey Choombas

With the release of Cyberpunk 2077 right around the corner (!!!), review EDIT: PREVIEW copies have already been sent to members of the media. (review copies likely within the coming week) This will likely and unfortunately cause major story moments to be leaked and potentially spoiled to the community. We are sure that many of you have concerns regarding how spoilers will be handled on r/cyberpunkgame, so hopefully this thread will clear up any concerns.

    Regarding leaked review-copy spoilers

Under no circumstances may any discussion of leaked spoilers take place on the subreddit, prior to the game releasing. Posting any leaked spoilers, no matter how you mark them, will result in a ban from the subreddit, without exception.

However, if members of the media post spoiler-free opinions of the game (that are clearly not breaching any NDAs), you are free to share them. (example)

Regarding spoilers once the game is released

Seeing as this is the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit, we want to encourage discussing the game and its story as much as possible. However, we want to make sure that all members of the community can safely browse the subreddit, without fear of the game being spoiled. With that said, here is a guide for how to safely post spoilers to r/cyberpunkgame. Please note that failing to follow this guide and posting unmarked spoilers will result in a ban from the subreddit, without exception. If you are unsure if your post/comment is following the guidelines, send us a modmail first!

It is also worth noting that we will put the subreddit in approve-only mode on launch day (or earlier, if necessary). This means that all posts will have to be manually approved by a moderator before they hit /new.

    Spoilers In Post Titles:

A post title should not contain any spoiler, no matter the context. If you cannot make a title without a spoiler, DO NOT POST IT. If you are unsure if the title is a spoiler, send us a modmail first!

Preface any spoiler discussion with [SPOILER]. Follow this with your level and lifepath. If the discussion is about a story mission, or sidequest, then type the mission name. (This is assuming the mission name does not contain a spoiler)

Other than that, the title should be as unspecific as possible, to be sure to avoid spoiling anything.

Here are some examples of a good title and some bad titles: (assume that "Cyber adventure" is the mission name)

    Good title:

    • [SPOILER][Level 26 Nomad] Cyber Adventure - Confused about ending

    Bad titles:

    • [SPOILER] Cyber Adventure - Confused about ending
    • [Level 26 Nomad] Cyber Adventure - Confused about ending
    • [SPOILER][Nomad] Cyber Adventure - Confused about ending
    • [SPOILER][Level 26] Cyber Adventure - Confused about ending
    • [SPOILER][Level 26 Nomad] Confused about mission ending
    • [SPOILER][Level 26 Nomad] Cyber Adventure - Why did they have to kill that character at the end
    • [SPOILER][Level 26 Nomad] Cyber Adventure - Crazy car chase
    • [SPOILER][Level 26 Nomad] Cyber Adventure - Which gun should I take as loot
    • etc

Spoilers In Post Body Text & Comments:

There are two ways to tag spoiler text, whether it is in the body of a post, or a comment.

    1. By using markdown (works on new and old reddit): DumDum Dies= DumDum Dies. If you can't describe the media without spoilers, do not post it.
    2. On new reddit, by highlighting your text and clicking the (!)in the bottom tab of the comment box.

Even if you used a proper title, you still have to tag spoilers in the body of a post. You don't have to tag the entire sentence that contains the spoiler, but you have to tag the spoiler itself. It is easier to demonstrate this with some examples. (Same goes for comments!)

Good example: It was crazy at the end of the quest when they killed Dumdum

Overkill example: It was crazy at the end of the quest when they killed Dumdum

Bad example: Spoiler! It was crazy at the end of the quest when they killed Dumdum

    • Just typing 'Spoiler' at the start of a comment is not considered properly tagging a spoiler. You have to tag it as described above. (If you want to preface it with 'Spoiler' anyways, then awesome.

What if in the comments I want to discuss something that happen during another quest?

If the quest took place before the one being discussed: You still have to tag spoilers, as everyone's playthrough can be different. Your best bet is to use the same format as described above for post titles. However, when you're talking about this old quest, you might forget the name of the mission or the level you were when you played it. That is understandable, but you still have to try to give some sort of timeframe for when the mission took place. In that case, please tag appropriate spoilers. Once again, the best way to demonstrate this is through examples:

Ideally: During the mission Cyber Adventure, when I was a level 26 Nomad, it was crazy how Dumdum was killed, but in this mission he was alive.

But if you forget the mission name/level:

Good example: It was crazy how earlier in the game, as a Nomad Dumdum was killed, but in this mission he was alive.

Bad example: It was crazy how earlier in the game Dumdum was killed, but in this mission he was alive.

I do see that it is silly to tag a spoiler for something that happened earlier in the game, but (regarding the above example) maybe in someone else's playthrough, Dumdum wasn't killed. In that case, you would potentially be spoiling a second playthrough.

If the quest took place after the one being discussed: Do not comment about it. Even if you are properly tagging the comment, it is best not to post it. If a user is at the appropriate level/lifepath and has completed the mission that the post is discussing, they should not need to worry about content later in the game being spoiled. Rather, you should create a new post discussing the comparison between the two quests. An example of a good title for that kind of post: [Spoiler][Level 26 Nomad] Cyber Adventure - Interesting comparison with earlier mission.

Will we see a potential Mike Tyson cameo? I read recently that they have a cameo of a celebrity in the game. And there is boxing fist matches in the game. It would be awesome to see Iron Mike all cyber-pimped up as the toughest opponent you face during the matches.
