    Hey Choombas,

The theme of this week's book club is Harper Lee's classic, To Kill a Mockingbird. This Pulitzer winning book is a staple of modern American literature. We think that in order to move on with the book club, it is first important to familiarize ourselves with some well-known books in general.

We expect that many of you have already read this for school, and those that haven't will have plenty of time to read it this week (due to Coronavirus). With that said, we are hoping that everyone will have a chance to write a short (1500-2000) word essay on the book, to discuss during next week's book club. Here are some questions to get you thinking:

    • Analyze the childhood world of Jem, Scout, and Dill and their relationship with Boo Radley in Part One.

    • How do Jem and Scout change during the course of the novel? How do they remain the same?

    • Discuss the role of family in To Kill a Mockingbird, paying close attention to Aunt Alexandra.

    Source and more questions

Please note that in order to continue participating in future book clubs, you must participate this week and submit a proper essay. We will be tagging those that do/don't.

Also, please take a chance to vote on next week's book! The options are Mein Kampf, The Bible, and Green Eggs and Ham! All 3 are classics, so it's definitely a tough call.
