Last week, the book club's topic was the movie Blade Runner. We hope you all had a chance to watch it during the week. Please discuss what you thought of it below! How do you see its influence in cyberpunk media today? How has it aged over time? As well, last week we posted a poll to vote for this week's book club, and the winner is: Neuromancer! Neuromancer was written by William Gibson in 1984 and is considered to be the father of cyberpunk. It's one of my favorite books and I highly recommend reading it! If you think that one week might be too short for you to read a book, please tell us in the comments and we will consider waiting an extra week to discuss it. (Maybe only discuss the first half next week) Lastly, please vote on next week's book! (Options: Altered Carbon S1, Blade Runner 2049, Akira) If you want to see something else in the vote for an upcoming week, please tell us in the comments! Also, if you want to talk about some other cyberpunk media, feel free to make a post about it today. Just be sure to include some level of detail/discussion, as it won't be related to CP2077, and we don't want it to be an excuse for low effort posts. Tag it with [Cyberpunk Wednesday] in the title for some extra eddies from the mods. [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Mar 2020 12:44 PM PST What we know about character creation and discussion about your builds So from what I found on the internet, we know most of what there is to know about the character creation in Cyberpunk 2077. Note that this is the info I gathered from many different sources, and I could be terribly wrong. In the game you can choose the appearance, voice gender and backstory of your character. Life path origin: a fundamental feature of the back story. Although life path can be changed during the game, the origin cannot. Having one or another origin give you advantage in certain situations. Our options are: Street kid - born in the slums of night city, involved in gang violence since childhood. Give an advantage when dealing with gang members. Corpo - was born to rich parents, got great education as a child using VR technology, possibly worked for some kind of a corporation. Have an advantage when dealing with other corpos. Nomads - Was born in some kind of a commune or tribe of nomads, never staying in the same place. Found very little of info on this life path but I read somewhere that it will have some advantage in crafting or looting. Childhood hero: Samurai Rockerboy: Johnny Silverhand Solo of Fortune: Morgan Blackhand Corporate God: Saburo Arasaka Key life event: Death of a sibling Ran away from home First big kill Why Night City: Unfinished Business Ex-Lover in town Something to prove Appearance: We will be able to choose our appearance. Head, hair, eyes, tattoos, scars, skin tones (including non natural skin and eye mods) and more. I read in some places that you can choose also to be an AI humanoid and not just a cyborg. Stats: Deicide on the basic stats of your character, you'll have 25 points to start with (according to the gameplay videos), and you'll be able to choose where to put them. Categories are: strength, constitution, intelligence, tech and cool. The cool stat should be deciding how you'll handle stressful situations. Classes: Solo - mainly using a direct approuch to solving problems. violance, guns, melee cyberware and such. you can choose between a Fast Solo, an agile build that can double jump and hang from the wall, or a strong solo, more of a tank build that uses sheer strength to rip guns from turrets or taking someone as a human shield. Techie - using and crafting traps and weapons, manipulating technology on a hardware level for your advantage. Netrunner - hacking to internal networks of targets to get information, disable their systems, create distractions etc. The class system would be fluid and you'll be able to mix and match skills from different classes. So have you already decided on what character you'll create? When playing RPGs do you make decisions based on what you would have done as the character, or do you imagine a person with his/her own set of rules? Would you always make the best decision possible, or do you choose what fits the character, even if you know it means bad outcomes? I usually play as myself or as what I would want to be at the first run. But I think in this game its a bit hard to play as yourself, since this world is very different to the one we live in (in terms of childhood and social structures). When I play as an imaginary character I usually forget the backstory I set for myself (unless it's hardwired to the main story as it is in fallout 4 or the witcher series). As for making bad decisions, it's very hard for me to do so most of the times I won't do it but I try to. I had some builds in mind for the upcoming game: A nomad running away from home, (I don't really know what is the effect of role model) in night city to prove a point. Mainly a netrunner and a techie, using as little brute force as possible (so stealth build) A corpo whose sibling had been assassinated by an other corporation, having unfinished business with said corpo. This will be more of a solo build with netrunning abilities (in my imagination corpos are used to get what they want by force or by money and not by making or modifying stuff) Hadn't really thought of how I'll have my street kid build, but I think it will be a solo (life is hard on the street and you need to be strong) and a techie (need something to spice things up, I never liked only forceful approach to games. I think on the street you'll have less access to netrunning stuff so it might be a bit out of character). Also I feel like I need to write this again: this is what I read from many sources, I might be totally wrong. Also I never played the pen and paper RPG so I might be wrong on other lore related assumptions I made. Please fix me if I am so The hype is very high for me [link] [comments]
