FF5 Roundup, Eastereggs, Tesla's Cybertruck, with Miles Tost and Fabian Döhla Posted: 08 Dec 2019 09:58 AM PST moin yesterday was FriendlyFire 5, an annual german charity stream on twitch. cdpr was one of the sponsors. Fabian Döhla and Miles Tost from cdpr were there and had a talk about Cyberpunk 2077, from which i will roughly translate the few interesting parts below: source: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/518278542?t=08h44m22s ____________________ [...] Q: as a level designer, do you implement eastereggs or mean stuff completely on your own? miles: actually yes. but you have to estimate how mean your game should be. in my opinion, the creators of dark souls seem to have more freedom with it. we do not want our games to be as brutally punitive as souls. for example: being killed for just wanting to enter a room. but i have to say, as a developer we have a lot of creative freedom in working on our games. especially in our studio we are in charge for our area. but of course we're working with our team, for example: Phillip, a quest designer, comes to us and asks us about a specific place he needs for his quest, like the mall we showed in the demo: yes, we did build it for his quest, but in the end we can decide what it will look like and what challenges players will have to face there. [...] Q: do you create eastereggs, which only your coworkers could possibly understand? miles: yes, thats exactly the next step. decide if i want to add easter eggs or not. often these are larger than first thought. especially if we make easter eggs over other ips, our legal department has to approve such things first. but often we only use insiders which only our employees can understand. in witcher 3, for example, i named a village after my brother "Karsten" in the english version. but it is not included in the german version because people noticed.. fabian: right now we're working on a bigger project in cyberpunk (easteregg) and it looks like we'll get it approved and if that happens, i would be really happy about that. but we have to balance those things because it's really easy to break immersion. of course, people want to leave their digital footprint, but that's not easy. in witcher 3 we found a nice way by simply writing our names on tombstones. [...] regarding tesla and cybertruck: fabian: we were very surprised about the reveal of the cybertruck, the whole design and of course the logo. and if it really has something to do with us, that would be a great compliment to us. Q: do you think he (Elon) uses cyberpunk 2077 as an inspiration? fabian: well, I think he knows about it and likes the game [...] that's just an impression i have. [...] i think he lives in LA and there are events like the E3. however, hey, he's up to date with new things, new tech. he has children who might know about our game. [...] Q: would you say that cyberpunk 2077 will be like GTA? fabian: no. nope. its an rpg and its very story heavy. its not as sandboxy as like gta where you just get a rocketlauncher and keep wrecking everything until 100 helicopters come after you. thats what gta can do really well and is the best at. we are still developing rpg games and are telling a story. in terms of freedom, cyberpunk 2077 will have limitations. for example there will be parts where you cant use a weapon. we want to create an rpg again. its a singleplayer rpg. [...] Q: how was the transition to cyberpunk after working on the witcher games for so many years? miles: well, you must know that we still have people in cdpr who have been working here since witcher 1 and who have been making swords and medieval stuff for over 10 years now. we are pretty happy to finally do something other than that. some of our bosses were big fans of cyberpunk 2020 pen & paper and wanted to do something with it. luckily it worked out for us to work with Mike Pondsmith. we are really happy to do something new, from 3rd person fantasy rpg to 1st person scifi rpg, which can not be more different. as a developer, from a creative point of view, its really great to work in this new environment. [...] will there be a witcher 3 easter egg? miles: cant confirm or deny. _____________________ [link] [comments]

Posted: 08 Dec 2019 05:37 AM PST Would you prefer if there's a dating system like GTA IV, or a system more like GTA V where you just call whoever, visit them, handle business then leave? A dating system could be nice, driving around in Night City doing random activities with someone you can vibe with... it's in-game but still.. And in GTA IV, some romance options came with a cool bonus that could be useful in the game.. There could be so many benefits dating a corpo-agent if there's that option in Cyberpunk 2077.. So what would you prefer, booty call or date? [link] [comments]
Reason why we didnt get to see the full E3 2019 demo.... Posted: 08 Dec 2019 06:51 AM PST ....is because CDPR wasn't confident at the time. 1 - For whatever reasons, they probably felt that the general public would find it underwhelming compared to the 2018 demo. We had a full year to dissect the 2018 video so we were "experienced" and no longer naive fans just happy to see anything. Our expectations increased and thus our awareness. 2 - But you may ask, "Why show it to attendees at these game shows?" Well simple, showing it at game shows and not allowing any recordings is a way to show it to the fans without them having the ability to comprehend anything later one as they can rewatch it on their phone. Normally when you see something you like for the first time you'll normally have nothing but positive things to say. It js only after watching it a few more times do you tend to pick up and notice a few shortcomings. Amd even then, the demo they show at these shows is still not the same full demo they showed to journalists at E3 2019. So even at these game shows CDPR is a bit insecure. You really couldn't get your head wrapped around it which was the point.....show you the gameplay without you fully being able to comprehend it. This leads to point 3. 3 - This is why the deep dive video they gave us was edited in a way it was. It was done purposely so that it is hard for us to....stay focused and gather a mental rhythm which makes it hard for us to judge things. We cant judge pacing, narrative, sound, dialog flow and many other aspects because the video keeps jumping around all while some narrator talks over it....preventing us from being fully immersed into the video. CDPR knew if they released the full 40ish min E32019 demo then the internet would have dissected it to the T and would point out a few irregularities that may be taken out of context. Some irregularities such as gunplay and vehicle density on the roads to name a few. 4 - Unlike the 2018 video, this year we have something to compare it to. The internet would have noticed MANY things and details that were in the 2018 video but are no longer in the 2019 one. Talk of downgrade and downsizing would happen. People would ask why does the 2018 video have this and that while the 2019 one doesnt? So this is why in my opinion CDPR did not release the full 2019 demo on the internet. For whatever reasons, CDPR big heads felt like it would be a bad move to allow the internet to see the full demo that they show journalist. I believe CP2077 will ultimately release as a full and developed game but during the time of E32019 and the type of gameplay they showed, CDPR felt uncomfortable with us seeing that. I believe there will be at least one more "gameplay" demo from CDPR prior to launch. It would be more along the lines of a short deep dive style presentation rather than a full 40+ min with minimum commentary like the 2018 one. After that we'll get the an info dump from the devs, a screenshot dump and then finally the launch trailer. I expect around 1 week before launch but possibly 2 week, the batch of leaks would begin to happen whether it is text leaks, screenshot leaks or full video leaks. Either way that will happen before release in which the leaks would either confirm/deny our greatest fears or excitement. [link] [comments] |
