How did they pull off the facial animations in this game?

Just started playing for the first time and totally blown away by the quality of these motion captures. The eyes looking away when feeling shame, subtle head shakes and nods when hearing bad/good news, really quality stuff. Amazing wrinkles too, not many games paid that much attention to those.

I do remember watching that demo video they released about their innovative AI, but that can't be all there is, can it? No way the AI can pull all that off only with recordings and voice tones. But also no way they had time to animate every little conversation in the game. If anyone know, please enlighten me! I'm so intrigued. Haven't skipped a single dialogue because of how mesmerizing each character looks while talking.
