Is CDPR’s wall of silence doing more harm than good, and the Next-Gen version vs Fixing Core Mechanics/New Content Discussion.

    Posted: 10 Aug 2021 12:57 PM PDT

Let me start by saying this, as evident by my playtime according to Steam, 949.2 hours Played, I REALLY like CP2077. I'm playing on PC, with a Ryzen 9 3900xt, RTX 2070 Super, and 32 GB of RAM, so I can run the game with RTX Shadows and Reflections on, and all graphical settings on Ultra, except for Film Grain, Motion Blur, Chromatic Aberration and RTX Lighting (all by choice, don't like the effects), and I get consistently 65 to 75 FPS.

That said, while I understand that CDPR wants to keep quiet to avoid Over Hype or Over Promises, I think this wall of silence approach they are taking is an Over Correction, and the end result would be the same or even worst. By staying silent and not communicating with the community, the imagination of all of us waiting for some news is running wild and we will latch on to any sort of news, real or not, that it's floating out there in the internet, take the whole "DLC coming in July thing" that happened a couple of weeks ago. In my case, because of my experience with the game, my "hope" for the next Hot-Fix/Patch/DLC, whatever you want to call it, is an overhaul of the AI system, Pedestrian, Driving, Police, some customization options for V, cars, apartments, etc, some new content gigs, side missions etc, and maybe some third person perspective in some areas of the game. The longer we wait, and the longer CDPR stays quiet, those "hopes" turn into "expectation", after all, if they are taking so long, it's because they are hard at work, right?? But the reality is that no matter what they put out, it's never going to match those expectations. I'm sure that a lot of ppl are on the same boat, imagining the game they want, and thinking that, because of the time they are taking, it's totally possible that it will happen.

In my humble opinion, CDPR should be more transparent with the community, let us know what you are working on, what's coming, but be honest. You don't want to commit to a specific date of release, that's fine, but at least let us know what you are working on, and maybe an estimate on the release, something along the lines of "Within the next 2 months" or something like that. If they miss the window, there will be some backlash for sure, but I think that it won't be as bad as the backlash they'll get if after 3 months of waiting we get a patch full of "performance improvement's" and "Fixing Story Progression Issues" and nothing more.

Another thing I've been seeing a lot lately is the whole Next-Gen Upgrade vs Fixing Core Mechanics/New Content discussion. Again, I play on PC, so the Next-Gen Upgrade won't have any impact on my experience, but I really don't understand why there's ppl that would prefer the Next-Gen Upgrade in place of getting some of the Core Mechanics of the game, like AI, Police, Driving, etc, fixed, and having some new content in the game. The only reason I could think of is a misunderstanding of what the Next-Gen Upgrade will include. As far as I know, and what I've seen in other Next-Gen Upgrades, it's just tweaking the game to take full advantage of the Hardware, meaning better graphics, faster load times, and better FPS. But if the core mechanics are bad, the Next-Gen Upgrade won't fix that. You can polish a turd all you want, but at the end of the day you just have a shiny turd, it won't turn it into a Dimond. I think the priority for CDPR should be Fixing Core Gameplay Mechanics, for example, GTA 5 level AI, not GTA 3 level AI like we have now (It should be RDR 2 level AI, but ok). This may, and this is a huge maybe, fix some of the performance issues. Then concentrate on new content, get those Free DLC's you promise out. And then work on the Next-Gen.

This is just how I feel, my 2 cents. Please let me know your thoughts.

CD Projekt Red used journalist quotes from the 2018 demo.

    Quotes from journalists.

CD Projekt Red used journalist's quotes taken from articles after the 2018 demo, which as we all know, is very different from the game we actually got. It feels really out of touch for CD Projekt Red to use quotes given to the original gameplay demo in 2018, and is generally misleading.

Quotes such as: "may be the best game ever made", "gameplay blew us away" and "literally mindblowing" are all remarks journalists had after seing the original 2018 demo.

Everyone knows the demo was mindblowing, and it's the reason for the games hype in the first place, so it just seems really shitty for CD Projekt Red to still use these remarks as advertisement for the game, after changing it so much. Seems like false advertisement.

    Thoughts?

Cyberpunk 2077 definitely has potential to be one of the best story games ever, its shortcomings are plentiful but in the moments that shine the love that the developers put into the game becomes clear.

Spoiler: Having just finished the main story, I chose the Hanako path and honestly nearly everything from a story point of view was perfect, the revelations uncovered at the bottom of Arasaka tower through to Yorinobu was very well written. What I was unprepared for was the ending, the circumstance V finds themself in on the orbital station.

It really hit home just from the surgeon's initial dialogue during her "recording" directly after the surgery, that Arasaka didn't care yet again and that Johnny was right. I felt guilty. Moments later in the 'patient's room' and the tests that occur, really do show the wear and tear on V's psyche, whilst also being exposed to the events taking place in Night city through the TV. I think the TV was a great choice in relaying this information as you're forced to just sit there helplessly, I could not help but imagine that this is how patients in hospitals must feel all the time when they simply can not get up and leave, they're basically confined. The atmosphere was captured really well. It was perfect to give the player time to speculate on why what's happening is happening, did I lose or win?

Then V was allowed their phone, I felt even worse then because there was only 3 contacts. Hanako, Panam and Viktor. No one else.

Following this and the revelation that the surgery was unsuccessful, I choose to sign the contract that was brought to me by Takamura whom I thought of as a friend, but Johnny's verbal sound of "Clink" came to mind. In spite of returning to NC, I opted to sign the contract.

The cinematic that followed, showing V's player character, their decision reflected by their expressions, were breathtaking. Another thing I did not expect was the holo messages during the credits, this really made me feel like V was part of the world.

That ending cinematic could've been enhanced in only way, the game needed more out of body cinematics that showed V's humanness or lack there-off, this would've greatly benefited the story.

More of those holo messages that have personal tones would've helped make the world feel more alive too, it made me think that there's only two times in your life people care about you, when you're rich and when you're dead. This is at least how I felt about those ending holo messages.

We all know the amount of shortcomings the game has, I've seen more than enough of my share, not going longer than 10 minutes before encountering something incredibly jarring, destroying the immersion. Despite these issues the story really is amazing, it is just a real sour lemon that everything else is 50/50 and at best keeps the story together like a worn out book with a broken spine.

A quiet life... or a blaze of glory.

This is a completely different game on max settings with full RTX on!

    Posted: 10 Aug 2021 08:23 PM PDT

Prior to today I was playing CP2077 on my mere mortal RTX 2080 on medium settings and RTX off to get decent 50-60FPS gameplay. I was finally able to get a RTX 3080 and cranked up the settings to max with RTX on psycho and OH BOI....! This is now CP2087!!! The game looks absolutely stunning and the RTX makes walking around the city surreal! Really hope everyone can one day experience the game on max settings. It is something else for sure.

    E3 trailer end text

    E3 trailer end text

Was watching this video on CP2077's development and was shown this text at the end of the E3 trailer in this video. Sorry if this has been posted here before. Just thought it was cool to share it if it hasn't been done so.

    Hidden E3 trailer message

    Trailer message transcription:

It's been over 2077 days since we announced our plan to develop Cyberpunk 2077. We released a CGI trailer, gave some interviews and... went dark. Normal procedure for these kind of things - you announce a game and then shut up, roll up our sleeves, and go to work. We wanted to give you The Witcher 3 and both expansions first, which is why this period of staying silent was longer than we planned. Sorry for that.

As soon as we concluded work on Blood and Wine, we were able to go full speed ahead with CP2077's pre-production. But we chose to remain silent. Why? At some point, we made a decision to resume talking about the game only when we have something to show. Something meaningful and substantial. This is because we do realise you've been (im)patiently waiting for a very long time, and we wouldn't like anyone to feel that we're taking this for granted. On the contrary - it gives us a lot of extra motivation. The hype is real, so the sweat and tears need to be real, too :).

But, to the point. Today is the day. If you're seeing this, it means you saw the trailer - our vision of Cyberpunk, an alternative version of the future where America is in pieces, megacorporations control all aspects of civilised life, and gangs rule the rest. And, while this world is full of adrenaline, don't let the car chases and guns mislead you. Cyberpunk 2077 is a true single player, story-driven RPG. You'll be able to create your own character and..., well, you'll get to know the rest from what we show at our booth at E3. Be on the lookout for the previews!

Before we finish, you probably have some questions, right?

    1.When?

When we told you we would only release the game when it's read, we meant it. We're definitely much, much closer to a release date than we were back then :), but it's still not the time to confirm anything, so patience is still required. Quality is the only thing that drives us - it's the beauty of being an independent studio and your own publisher.

    1. How big?

Seriously big, but..., to be honest, we have no bloody clue at this point in time. Once we put it all together, we will openly tell you what you can expect. And we promise we'll do this before we start talking about any pre-orders or ask anything of you.

    1. Free DLC/Expansions/DRM?

Expect nothing less than you got with The Witcher 3. As for DRM, CP2077 will be 100% DRM-free on PC.

    1. Microtransactions?

In a single player role-playing game? Are you nuts?

Once again, thank you for your patience. If you have a minute, do visit cyberpunk.net and share your opinion (about anything) with us. We read everything you post and we treat it very seriously.

    Yours, CD PROJEKT RED Team

Cyberpunk 2077 secret message - Full text conversion

The message kind of reveals what the state of mind is like for the higher ups at CDPR back then. Interesting read regardless for those that is seeing this message for the first time.

    Have a good day!
