Hey! This is our weekly Cyberpunk Lore discussion megathread.

With free talk (aka memes) being allowed across the weekend, discussions about the world of Cyberpunk can often be drowned out by memes & media posts across the weekend, so we hope this thread can help keep them going without being lost!

This includes the subway, apartments and basically all the "critiques". Although it is already apparent to those who bother to read post-launch articles

Why cant i bang more people in this game?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 06:41 PM PDT

In a game with so many hot NPC's, it seems like a waste to only be able to bang 2 or 3 people depending on your sexual preference.

This game oozes sexuality with its ads and just general look, yet it seems so tamed when it comes to you actually trying to do something naughty.

Yes before anyone say it, i'm aware of porn Lol. Just wish there was more to do, like when johnny takes over and you go out and just make out with abunch of randos and takes someone home, thats the type of feeling this game was meant to give atleast imo.

    Braindance should be skippable.

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 07:05 AM PDT

I find that my desire to play through is reduced by the knowledge that I'll have to endure how goddamn slow the braindance "shot by his own Choom" tutorial and "cut of fuckable meat" sections are.

If we already know the answer then let us skip or accelerate through them!

Pyramid song is hands down the best side quest in this game and one of the best quests I’ve ever done

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 05:35 PM PDT

Everything about that quest was amazing; the ambience, Judy singing, seeing her old town and hearing her old memories. The cottage experience and the morning after all served to be a highly emotional quest. Very rarely does a game make me feel empty inside but that quest managed to do so. Cyberpunk as a whole has a lot of wrongs and flaws, but that quest was a right.

Yorinobu Arasaka has a secret - An interesting hidden detail not referenced in-game yet

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 03:39 PM PDT

    Hey all,

As we all know, as evidenced by his appearance in CDPR's game, Yorinobu Arasaka is present in NC in the year 2077 and has come back into the Arasaka fold. While it's revealed in-game that he previously ran the Steel Dragons, there is a detail about him that I've not seen mentioned in-game at all. I've done five runs so far and I've yet to see any mention or acknowledgement of it whatsoever.

(On one hand, I suppose it makes sense that basically no one in-world would know the truth of what happened, given how everything was destroyed after. Maybe it'll come up later on in an expansion or something.)

I'm talking about the fact that the Yorinobu we see in-game is most likely a clone, first soulkilled by Kei Arasaka and then later uploaded to a cloned body.

EDIT: There is one mention. Maximum Mike (I should've expected this lol) mentions it on the radio in his usual conspiratorial tone that Arasaka's had this tech for a while, and that the events that happen below are what he thinks happened, with the addition that he thinks clone-Yorinobu's being mind-controlled to act the way his father would want him to. The mind control bit is incorrect because Yorinobu was clearly putting on a front to keep things steady until he was ready for the killshot, but the rest of it is pretty damn close to the description below.)

From page 139 in Firestorm Shockwave:

    Yorinobu Who?

For those of you who don't have Firestorm Stormfront or Corpbook One, this 27-year-old son of Saburo has always despised what his father's company represented. Yorinobu "ran away" from the family at age 21 and formed the Kotetsu no Ryu - "The Steel Dragons" - bike gang. They have sworn to expose or destroy Arasaka and have been a thorn in Kei's side for years. Yorinobu maintains tenuous but loving contact with his younger sister, Hanako, who still lives in the family compound.

The characters may have met Yorinobu during the war - he refused to side with Militech, but did not supply info to the Japanese government that helped in their nationalization of Arasaka's native offices. Certainly they would have heard of him, since the screamsheets love to play up "the rogue son of Arasaka '' story.

In return for what he saw as Yorinobu's betrayal, Kei made him one of the first targets for the new Soulkiller. Now Kei has his little brother where he can do no harm - and he doesn't even have to dishonor himself by killing him. Except Yorinobu has been found by the characters…

On the same page, but different section:

"Also here [in Subbasement 14: Command Center - Arasaka Tower] in an adjacent room, is the storage core for the Soulkiller program; If the players check this room, they will find a video monitor that seems to be showing them a slightly surreal version of Yorinobu Arasaka, Saburo's youngest son! A check on the datafile name shows a file: Arasaka, Yorinobu-09/24/2022. [This attack happened on 08/20/2023]

It shouldn't take brain surgeons to realize that Kei had his rebellious brother brain-sucked and placed in here. So what are they going to do about it? Yorinobu's engram set is totally complete, and takes up a little over 1000 MU when fully compressed...

...Next door is what appears to be some sort of cloning facility, with something that a medtech might (Very Difficult: Medtech!) be able to identify as some kind of neural uploading system hooked into the Soulkiller storage core. The equipment seems to have been used (if the players investigate, they will find tissue samples labeled Alt: 02/17/2013 and Yorinobu Arasaka: 09/23/2022, as well as several others)."

This indicates that, canonically, Strike Team Beta probably elected to rescue Yorinobu and blow the bomb. Aside from destroying the database, capturing it, or otherwise totally failing and leaving it to Kei's self-destruct, this was one of the choices Beta members could make:

The players opt to save Yorinobu and then blow the bomb. This will likely save a lot of people a lot of heartache, and largely be a good thing.

The real question I have is, what exactly is the canonical explanation? Does someone more knowledgeable in this than I have a better explanation for the Soulkilled-Yorinobu or was it just retconned?

There are other details in Cyberpunk RED that contradict each other, like how "Fall of the Towers" shows the original plot of Alpha freeing Alt and planting fire bombs, while a brief section about the attack mentions they sent "a pocket nuke" down the elevator. As far as I recall the only team that actually had a nuke was Beta, and they were sent down into the basement to retrieve/destroy the database. This could possibly allude to how much misinformation there is about it in-world in how the sort of general understanding is inaccurate, but kinda gets the gist.

I've been reading through this stuff to figure out just how much of Johnny's memory in-game is fake and specifically what details he omits, but I'm really not sure what to think here or if I'm just overthinking lore entries older than I am. Please lemme know your thoughts!

TL;DR - Yorinobu got Soulkilled by Kei Arasaka in 2022, stored beneath the tower, and then later uploaded into a clone body.

This is my relationship with this game right now, I dont know if i should hold on it or let it go, Withouth any deny this game have a potential to be one of the greatest games all time, but lack of missing content and some weird gameplay mechanics seems really hopeless.
