Posted: 14 Jul 2021 02:11 AM PDT So, this argument. People didn't have trouble finishing Witcher 3 because it was too long. The positivity to the story and it's success tells us this. The reason people never finished the game is, IMO, the same as why I didn't. They were walking through the game trying to reach the next story objective... and they got sidetracked. They heard some Sculptor complaining that someone stole the dick off his statue and though 'okay, I need to hear the story behind this.' and then it happened again, and again. Either during or after the completion of that quest. they heard something intriguing. They saw something they wanted to craft/buy and went to get the materials or money for it. they got immersed in bounties, etc. They got lost in the world, and stopped playing not because it was boring but because CDPR managed to make a game where you could burn 70 hours hearing fantastic side stories without even touching the main questline. To be able to lose yourself in a game world is one of the highest hallmarks of quality in a game. It's a superb show of skill and craftsmanship in the design, gameplay and worldbuilding. And that is something that was entirely lost with the choice to cut down the length of Cyberpunk. You can't walk around the world and immerse yourself in it both because there is no dynamic world to interact with AND because the game is obsessed with forcing you to progress the main questline of the game because 'oh, you're on a ticking clock V's blacking out and dying and ohmygod you gotta fix this!' that you don't really even get any character development for V OR Johnny. You never actually find out what the fuck was going on with Alt, Johnny, Rogue, Judy, the Aldecaldos, the Gangs, the Corps, etc. Why does Johnny hate Arasaka Specifically? Why did Alt make Soulkiller? How did Judy come to be so important to the Moxx or know Eveline? What do the Aldecaldos have going on that isn't SPECIFICALLY linked with you and your situation? Why do you never really interact with The Animals, The VDB, The Valentinos, The Mox, The 6th Street, Scavengers or Maelstrom unless it's specifically related to your situation? The game has so much content on the cutting room floor that what was got wasn't even a skeleton of a story. the narrative barely goddamn functions, much like the game. [link] [comments]
The REAL way to fix this game is to recreate the whole ACT 1 main story/quests. Posted: 15 Jul 2021 12:05 AM PDT Watched a lot of post that Johnny Silverhand should be a DLC and I completely agree to that. I lost almost all interest to the game after Act 1 because all those interesting characters 'just died' afterwards. They need a lot of more time to build up V and all other characters like Jackie, Everlyn, T-Bug...etc. The only way to fix this game is to completely redesign/recreate the story and quests in Act 1 and make it a full sized game. The "Success" of Cyberpunk 2077 is a bad omen for the games industry Posted: 14 Jul 2021 09:24 AM PDT If you like Cyberpunk, it's totally fine, but to ignore the objective truth that this game is a buggy and a rushed mess is not only disingenuous and false, but more importantly, will give the developers and publishers a clear message that you can release an extremely buggy and unfinished game, put a shiny coat of paint over it and people will still buy it in droves, then defend it online when somebody comes in with an honest complaint. In your attempt to defend a game that is really not worth your money or time, you are actually harming all of us. We all deserve better and if we let developers get away with stunts like this, we're all going to suffer for it. Honestly, it's shocking enough how CDPR can still go around flaunting with their ingame statistics on Twitter after releasing such a weird quasimodo-esque game, but what's even more shocking is how many people are out there defending it. I get it, we wanted this game to be good, but it just isn't and no matter how much you're trying to convince yourself that it is, it plays like an alpha compared to a properly polished game made with care and patience, such as Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War or Red Dead Redemption. Cyberpunk doesn't deserve to be as "big" or "successful" as it is just because we waited for it for so long. They fucked it up. Remember, this was not supposed to be an indie game by a small team, but maybe the biggest game to ever come out period by one of the most cherished devs. In that context, it fails in almost every single level to deliver the kind of experience if was hyping us for. If No Man's Sky was crucified for it's release, then the repercussions for a AAA company like CDPR should be ten times worse. However, they're not and it's solely because of the fanbase. There are too many people out there who are now brand-loyal to CDPR and will defend them through anything, even when they are clearly in the fault. This gives the company a pass to do whatever they want, because they know they'll always have a group of hardcore sheep defending them in every comment section. Same exact thing happened with Fallout 76. >CDPR releasing an alpha game masquerading as a v1.0. "Omg this is so amazing! Thnx CDPR <3" Basically, stop defending games companies, you are just a dollar bill to them. Nothing more. If they don't provide an experience that is worth your hard-earned cash, then fuck them. Only thing that ends up happening is the executives laughing all the way to the bank with our money, while we are sitting here with our sub-par product. Doesn't that fuck with you? Even they wouldn't spend their time playing this game, but you are because of some kind of misplaced emotional attachment. Buying a game is supposed to be just a business transaction, not about feelings. You might have forced yourself to like this game and have become blind to it's issues, but the issues are still there. If we let this slide, we're all going to pay for it down the road. [link] [comments]
