Shower thought: no main story characters ever interact with each other, just V. They don't even know each other exist.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 10:23 AM PDT

I had a sad realization that Cyberpunk's story formula goes like this:

    1. Introduce character who can be relevant for one or two plot missions (Panam, Judy, etc)

    2. At the conclusion of their plot relevance, introduce a line of sidequests for that character.

    3. Prevent that character from ever showing up in the main story or anybody else's questlines again until the end.

There is zero interaction between these character sidequests and the rest of the story. Judy never even has a conversation with Panam, or even acknowledges her existence because you might not have done that questline. Takemura never gets to sit in the same room as River and complain about Chubby Buffalo BBQ.

Compare this to the different character interactions in Mass Effect when they're in the same elevator or on a mission together. Even Saints Row 3 let you use your phone to call story characters to join you as companions on missions, even when they were still a part of the main story. You could call any two characters, put them in the same car or mission, and they'd talk to each other. Not here.

Imagine a mission with Judy (or even TBug, since she was clearly supposed to survive) doing comms and computer stuff while V and Takemura infiltrate as Panam blows up stuff in the Basilisk.

Nope. Instead, we have zero simultaneous interactions between any of the main cast, just one at a time and like the others don't even exist. After Jackie dies we never have a team again, just V interacting with these people one at a time in total isolation.

As someone here recently said, Cyberpunk was a marketing exercise that was extremely successful. Just imagine how much more fun it was being hyped for the game than it was playing it.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 05:33 PM PDT

This entire project was a huge marketing campaign, which was ultimately more successful and better supported by CDPR than the actual development of the game itself.

Just imagine how much fun we all had over the years being hyped for this game, to then experience the utter emotional crash that was the actual final product. I truly believe that this entire product was the marketing itself, not the game.

Edit: here is the original poster of this great take on the situation: https://reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/comments/m8kg6r/_/grjhkg3/?context=1

CDPR might be the most narcissistic company in the industry.. (patch 1.2)

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 01:30 AM PDT

There's a patch that should drop soon, and they have done nothing but hype it up and even make a stupid 'themed' 1600 word article that could have just been a few lines of patch notes. They are running their mouths off claiming its the 2nd coming of christ that will fix this game, just like they ran their mouths off pre-release to secure as many pre orders as possible.

Other games just quietly release patches in the background, often its a nice surprise when you open the launcher and the downloading starts. There might be a mention of it somewhere on their official forum but that's it.

CDPR believe they can do no wrong. It's incredibly arrogant and self-centred for them to just make a joke of the patch, thinking its smart and funny that they are 'calling themselves out' on that atrocious excuse of a police system. They are utterly tone deaf to what the fans want. They are implementing basic shit that modders fixed in a week. There is no mention of the 35 perks that are non-functioning, surely that would be a top priority for them, not changing the police spawn timer by a few seconds. It is pure narcissism.

It's no laughing matter and I am seeing it clearer by the day now that they are going to abandon cyberpunk the way bioware did anthem and they will get bought up by EA or Blizzard and reabsorbed into a bigger conglomerate of the corporate entertainment machine.

I wish CDPR had trusted that we would give them the benefit of the doubt...

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 08:22 PM PDT

When I consider the way this game launched, the state in which it has languished, and the subsequent backlash levied against CDPR, I keep coming back to the idea that much or all of this could have been mitigated or avoided had they trusted that our belief in them was strong enough to warrant an honest discussion regarding the state of this game. That they could walk back some of the hype and address what features had to be scaled down or omitted, the challenges of adapting to 8th generation consoles, and the need for more time to address it.

The worst part of it is that most, if not all of us, were more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Their reputation at the time was untarnished and while many may have been disappointed, I firmly believe that most would have understood and rewarded their honesty by with patience and the reaffirmation of faith in the project. To support this notion, you need only look to the huge amount of people who chose to keep the game in lieu of refunding it.

I am one of those people; I saw the shape this game was in, but I kept it anyway because I gave them the benefit of the doubt and had faith they could fix it in a timely manner. Sadly, this faith has proven to be misplaced. Here we are, over 3 months later, and the game may actually be worse than it was at launch. The upcoming patch that we all believed would be a massive step towards this endgame now looks like a bad joke and it's become abundantly clear that this games technical issues are probably not the kind of issues we can expect to be resolved via anything less than a complete overhaul of the engine itself.

Like many of you, I have tried desperately to love this game. There are times when it is evident there's a great game in here somewhere, but it is equally evident that this is a diamond in the rough and that the polishing required to turn this rock into the gem we were promised surpasses the capabilities of those tasked with doing so.

This doesn't mean there isn't an opportunity here. Should CDPR decide to trust us by to providing the realistic assessment they failed to provide prior to launch, it would go a long way towards making things right with regards to both the game itself and to their reputation as a studio.

I wouldn’t be surprised in one straight year of fixing is going to result in this game being Anthem-Ed

Seriously though, why hasn't this been fixed yet? This is the ugliest, most common visual bug I've seen. It completely pulls me out of the game.

What was the moment(s), if any, that made you realize the game was lacking in depth?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 04:33 PM PDT

For me mechanics-wise was when I looked up how to repair my car, I am a terrible driver and 15 min in my car was looking pretty bad, so I figured I'd look up where the garage was only to find out that just by calling the car again it was magically fixed.

Not the same thing, but story-wise, I realized it was gonna be one of those games when I could take revenge on certain fixer after The Heist.

    What was yours?

    I enjoyed the game

I know it's not perfect and I know it frustrated a lot of people but I enjoyed it. I put over 100 hours into the game and I can't remember the last time I did that.
