| [Spoiler] [End of Act I / Playing for Time] - I have cancer and this caught me off guard ✨ Posted: 04 Jan 2021 07:58 PM PST So I don't have a terrorist in my head, but I definitely was not expecting to identify with V so hard. The conversation between Viktor and V when Viktor broke the news to her that she's going to die soon and her conversations with Misty about death really took me by surprise. I was just diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer a few months ago, and so much of the dialogue in those conversations triggered some intense emotions because it mirrors shit I have to face and think about. Like the possibility of enduring an agonizing death as something slowly takes over my body. The average life expectancy after being diagnosed is 3 years. Unfortunately breast cancer has a tendency to metastasize to the brain and it's one of my worst fears. On top of that, shortly after I was diagnosed my bf left me and I became friends with this giant intimidating Mexican dude that I met on OkCupid who likes to call me "chica" lol. He has a rough past and present who can kick anyone's ass, but he has an absolute heart of gold. Jackie kinda reminded me of him. And then when Jackie fuckin' died, I was just like "fuckin' really?!" because I had to say bye to my friend a few months after meeting him because he unfortunately had to go to jail. | Posted: 04 Jan 2021 01:22 PM PST While many believe Evelyn was a wasted character, I thought Evelyn's death was genius. Playing the game for the first time, we as the players thought she was great. We believed she was incredibly intelligent, perhaps with unforeseen motivations but a powerful player in Night City. However, the hints are there from the start that she's not - she is tense and nervous when we see her. She is vague about her relationship with Yorinobu but effectively spins it to us as a business relationship (not entirely false it was a business relationship as she is a sex worker Yorinobu enjoys seeing). It's nothing more but we the player (well me anyway) believe it is. We can see her trying to find something on her own but fail. She grabs Yorinobu's tablet, she tries to read through his emails but she comes up empty handed. Hence, the desperate call for V. Then, when tracking her down V and we the player believe she will play a role in saving us - surely this awesome character has more in store, surely she's going to have a plan and surely she will play a large role in the story. Her death is a shock but it shows us how little we know and how naive we are. She was not the huge player we thought she was. We never knew the big players. We thought we'd hit the big time with Evelyn but she was just as naive as we were. She thought she could beat Night City and paid the consequences - no one beats Night City. Loved her and wish we could have seen more of her but she was a pawn thinking she was a player. [link] [comments] | ||
