I'm a Game Dev (not for CDPR), I would wager it was Stadia.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 04:24 PM PDT

CDPR execs more than likely underestimated the difficulty of implementing a new platform and inadvertently caused the delay.

I would wager it was a long, ongoing discussion with Google about a Stadia release, that eventually came to a large settlement not long before it was announced for Stadia, which took place on 15th of October. Google more than likely paid CDPR a lot to get the game on their failing system, and more than likely had a clause that stipulated the game MUST be released on Stadia simultaneous to other platforms, which is probably why it was a long discussion with Google and why the announcement was only 1 month before the expected launch.

CDPR then underestimated the scope of having to test and develop for Stadia, setting up test environments, potential compliance testing and dev-suites needed for the port. The game went Gold on the 5th of October. There is a lot of speculation what that entirely means, it can be understood as "Content Complete", however developers wouldn't normally submit a Gold build to platform Compliance teams unless they were sure it was coming close to going to "FPQA" or "FQA", a team that will test the game extensively for a week to ensure it meets the platforms requirements. Only once a game passes the FPQA testing would a dev NORMALLY feel comfortable announcing their Gold status. Assuming CDPR didn't jump the gun, Cyberpunk should be ready for all major platforms EXCEPT for the ones announced after the Gold announcement... Stadia.

With CDPR's obvious insistence on this game being perfect and, what I assume to be, a very expensive legal agreement with Google, along with a miscalculation of the scope on porting the game. I would would probably place the blame on Stadia and dumb management decisions.

The current state of the subreddit

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 09:42 AM PDT

It is time for people to stop blindly supporting CDPR and start asking questions.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 11:56 AM PDT

This is a problem for the Reddit gaming sphere in general, but as consumers we have the right to ask questions about a product being brought to market. It doesn't make us "entitled" or "trolls" to wonder how much CDPR is hiding about issues with their current iteration of the game, especially when it is impacting deadlines that were marketed directly to us.

If this were something like a new car tire, or some kind of new gadget, the industry would already be demanding answers. There would be major shareholder questions. There needs to be some CDPR management questioning going on, especially for the folks who have ordered this for current-generation machines (since it looks like it might be the cause of all the delays). We have a right to ask about frame rates, visual downgrades, and cut content.

Edit: I now think it's because of a deal CDPR recently cut with Google for their Stadia release. Find out more about that theory in this thread.

I am not following 2077 anymore

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 10:45 AM PDT

That's it, I can't follow this game anymore. Every single time this game's gotten close to release, it's been delayed. And it's not even for a good reason this time! At least with the previous delays, I went "oh, yeah, that sucks, but I understand," but no. If shipping the game on 9 different platforms at the same time is such a challenge that you need to delay the game again, then maybe you should... oh, I don't know... not ship on 9 different platforms at the same time? Seriously, does anyone else think that they should just focus on releasing the game when they promised they would and get the ports going after the fact?

But nothing I say here will likely change this. I can complain and rant until I'm blue in the face, but CDPR made their decision. At the end of the day, they have the right to. But I still have the right to be upset over it. Because, before someone comes out and calls me entitled, let me remind you once again that CDPR repeatedly promised this would not happen. They specifically said, time and time again, that there would be no more delays. They put up ads all over the place saying NOV 19. And then they turn around and do this.

I'm angry. I'm disappointed. I feel somewhat betrayed. But more than anything else, I'm exhausted. I'm sick and tired of getting my hopes up. My respect for CDPR has dropped considerably and from this point on, I've decided I'm just going to try to stop thinking about 2077. I won't visit this subreddit, I won't watch any more Night City Wire episodes that may come out, I won't bring the game up to anyone or participate in conversations about it. As far as I'm concerned, 2077 will cease to be relevant until it's DONE and released and I can actually play it.

In short: I do not accept your humble apologies for breaking your promise for what I think is a stupid reason.

EDIT: Christ, so many awards for this one. Even a platinum. First of all, thanks to everyone who sent me an award, even if I forgot to reply. Guess that's a silver lining through all this.

I'd also like to emphasize that it's not the delay itself that I'm upset about; at the end of the day, it's only 21 more days to wait... Assuming they stick to it this time. That's what truly upsets me: the fact that CDPR broke their word. I realize that game design can be a little unpredictable, but I really don't think that applies here, judging from their given reason - but again, I've never worked on a game all my life, so what do I know. Feel free to correct me if you've worked in game development and you disagree.

But getting back on topic, after all the promises that the previous delay would be the last one, I'm not sure I'm ready to believe the new promise that this delay will be the last one. After this, how can I trust CDPR to even release the game this year? Hell, not to be a downer, but I'm even starting to question if the game will even be any good. Forget living up to the hype; that was an impossibility long ago; what if when 2077 comes out, it's not even a good game when separated from the hype and judged by its own merits?

I'm probably just overthinking this. Maybe I'm an idiot for expecting any large game company to stick to their word. And I'm certainly doing a piss-poor job of pretending the game doesn't exist anymore. But what are your thoughts?

    Just here to suffer

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 09:46 AM PDT

This delay is bigger than they realize.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 11:23 AM PDT

They've effectively created an unrealistic expectation for this game to be absolutely perfect.

The hype was strong already but now, hype is turning into questioning "Will this game be worth it?" And that's honestly the worst thing for any product.

I feel like most media reviewers and gamers will now have that question etched in the back of their minds. And frankly I believe It causes more harm then a day 1 patch or even a day 21 patch where they address the issues that could have been exposed and forgiven on November 19th.

Now anytime a blade of grass loads abruptly in front of my massive 3rd leg (😂) I'm gunna scream "wtf you couldn't have fixed this?!?"

I kid but in all honestly this was just not a smart move at all on a lot of fronts logistically speaking so I just wonder what must be going on behind those doors to make them go through it. 🤔

    That's a big concern.

Again?? What the f**k is wrong with this game?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 10:50 AM PDT

First of all, this is not about the delay itself and I don't want to bash the developers. They are surley doing their best. But there is seriously something wrong with CDPR's communication team.

All those tweets and statements, no more delays, game has gone gold...and so on, just to delay the game AGAIN two f***ing weaks before release. Why would you even release such statements?

Some people (me included) have arranged their privat and professional life around the release of the game. I now have to cancel my vacation again, after doing the same thing for the September release. My boss will ask me if there's something wrong with me and I can't blame him.

The best thing would be to keep quiet till the release. No more promises or stupid tweets. Just be quiet and keep working on the game.

See you in December (OR NOT)!

People are finally losing their patience.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:00 PM PDT

I've been scrolling through Twitter, reddit, and Instagram and it seems CDPR kicked a hornets nest because it looks like for every 100 " we can wait posts" there's around 300 "go get bent" posts and its honestly about time people started putting their foot down instead of bending over backwards for a company that has shown it doesn't care about its workers or its players several times over. 21 days isn't enough to do anything extraordinary anyways so either something is really messed and they're trying to save face or they are so perfectionist they are willing to pass off their fan base to no extent. Either way what they doing is shitty.

The five stages of CP2077 delay

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:47 PM PDT

    1. Denial - Piss off Gamespot its already gone gold, checks Reddit
    2. Anger - Everyone cancels pre orders, demands satisfaction.
    3. Bargaining - The self proclaimed logical swoop in and quote Miyamoto.
    4. Depression - We end up buying a Ubisoft game to pass the time.
    5. Acceptance - Begrudgingly watch next night wire, vehicle customisation and a second vagina type are hinted at, pre order again, all forgiven.

    21 Days...

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:58 PM PDT

Like many of you, I too am upset and more than a little confused as to how a AAA game being developed by a massive team with an insane budget can officially go gold and then get delayed after the fact in less than a month prior to release.

Regardless, let's unpack this new timetable. 21 days. 21 days to presumably polish/tweak the game for simultaneous release on 9 different platforms (Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, PC, and Google Stadia). I've been a gamer for a long time. Over 25 years. I've also done my fair share of modding and have dabbled with Unreal Engine 3 & 4 as well as Unity. And I don't buy for one second that a AAA developer like CDPR, with the size of their team, budget, and overall experience needs a 21 day delay to "put some final touches" on CP 2077. If that was the case, they would just crunch until release in order for the Day One patch to fix the issues. No, a 21 day delay AFTER a game has gone gold is for something much more serious than just polish.

I don't know what the hell is going on at CDPR. It seems to me to be the result of incompetent management, because how the hell does someone who knows what they are doing let a game get its final gold certification and then soon after delay the game for 21 days? It doesn't make any logical sense. There are rumors going around that the delay is the result of extensive game crashes occurring on specific platforms (Xbox Series X was rumored), but unless we get any legit confirmation, rumors are just rumors.

CDPR is losing credibility by not being upfront and honest about this delay, and their fanbase is quickly losing patience. I still plan on getting CP 2077 at release, but I've lost respect for CDPR because of this stunt. I fully expect the truth to come out after the game is released, if not before. Things like that have a habit of leaking out.

State of the subreddit amidst the delay

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 10:27 AM PDT

    Hey Choombas

Like all of you, the mod team is very disappointed in hearing about the first second third delay of Cyberpunk 2077.

As you can see, the subreddit is currently locked in order to try and stop the sub from being overwhelmed with spam. We will unlock the sub shortly after this post is made, but we are asking you to keep a few things in mind:

    • For now, the subreddit will only allow text posts. This is to avoid low-effort memes and image-reaction posts.
    • As well, the subreddit will move into approve-only mode. This means that a post needs to be approved before it is live on the subreddit.
    • Please check the front page of the subreddit to see if someone has already posted the same take on the delay as you. It is better to comment on that post, rather than making an entire new post that shares the same opinion.
    • If the subreddit quickly becomes filled with spam, we may need to lock it again. Please avoid posting low-effort reactions
    • Adhere to rule 8 and do not encourage boycotting purchasing the game. Breaking this rule can and will likely result in a ban.

All said, we are still extremely excited for the launch of the game and can't wait to share the experience with the entire subreddit. Please try to stay level-headed so we can all make the subreddit the best discussion forum for all fans of Cyberpunk 2077.

This is the third delay, there is definitely something wrong going on within the developments. Im pretty confident now that when the game released, is more than likely a buggy mess. I honestly do not think that they are ready to release this year.

This last delay is just disgusting

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 11:56 AM PDT

the game now gets released on the last of my booked and confirmed holidays i had saved off for playing it. and they delay it because of some shit console synchron releases!!! sorry but i have no faith in them anymore.

i am just damn angry. i am over 50 years old, and cant afford to juggle around my free time to play one of the games i most looked forward too as if i am a schoolboy who has all the evening time to spare. i have to arrange things and plan in the future for this. and now they delay it again, even when its already done and gone gold.

sorry CDPR but you have just lost a customer, one who has two confirmed orders of the collectors edition (xbox and pc) and lost my faith.

to say i am deeply dissappointed is an understatement. You broke a promise, and are not better than EA. not a bit.

i was a fan of this, unique genre, great publisher, but this feels like a kick in the nuts. Nope ! You are out of my wallet.
