It is ‘Free Talk Friday’! - Rules 1 and 6 currently have relaxed moderation

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 09:00 PM PDT

    Hey Choombas,

As per the title, it is currently 'Free Talk Friday' and this means that there will be relaxed moderation of rules 1 and 6.

This means that you can post your random Cyberpunk 2077 discussions, even if they may not be OC/making a new point.

    A couple of examples are:

    • Basic polls, like, 'What lifepath are you choosing?'
    • Hype posts, like, 'This is Why I'm so Excited for Cyberpunk 2077
    • Battlestation posts, sharing your PC or console setup with a Cyberpunk 2077 theme

We will also be relaxing our moderation of rule 6, which means that you can post your Cyberpunk 2077 themed memes! Please note that they will still be subject to removal due to user reports.

Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Team Appreciation Thread

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 12:08 PM PDT

Can we get a thread going in here with positive messages and encouragement for the entire Cyberpunk 2077 development team? Maybe this is cheesy, but given the negativity of the past few days, and the death threat stories that have been coming out, it would be nice to come together as a community and show our support for everyone at CD Projekt Red that's missing out on spending time with their families and friends to get this game out. They didn't choose to delay Cyberpunk 2077 further, that's management's cross to bare. But the dev team is usually the one to bare the brunt of the backlash, and get saddled with the increased workload. I'm sure there are some members of the team that read this reddit, so let's show them we appreciate their hard work and support them. While we have an extra three weeks to wait to play the game, they just got handed an extra three weeks of crunch.

To anyone that works on the Cyberpunk 2077 dev team that may be reading this, thank you for your hard work over the past 7 years. We're closer to release than ever before and I can't wait to immerse myself in the story and world you've all worked so hard to create.

This subreddit just did a 180.

I kinda miss those wholesome memes, fanarts, etc. that were here before, now it's just all about the delay. I know that it sucks balls that the game won't be available to us for another 3 weeks, but jesus people, this ain't the end of the world. Me personally, I am hyped as shit for this game and can't wait to play it, but waiting for 21 more days after waiting for it for some years, it's nothing if the result is a better game. I know these types of posts are flooding this subreddit right now, but I just wanted to give my opinion on this matter and tell y'all, that we will have an amazing game sooner or later :)

PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO BE UPSET

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 12:50 PM PDT

COVID-19 has affected morale for everybody this year, this is the 3rd delay, CDPR said there might be another delay as they're not confident in the December 10th date, some people have been waiting for this game for 7 years, and after all of this the game could still be subpar. Some people might've gone through something personally tragic and couldn't wait for this 1 thing to cheer them up but still others are just saying to get over the delay. 4 release dates and potentially more to come and some are just saying they should just firm it. How many more delays until CDPR realise to just leave the release date at TBD until they have finished everything there was to clean up

CD Projekt Red's Adam Kiciński has sent out an email to employees, apologizing for his comments on crunch - via Jason Schreier

Wow, CD Projekt Red's Adam Kiciński just sent out an email to staff (passed to me) apologizing for these comments. "I had not wanted to comment on crunch, yet I still did, and I did it in a demeaning and harmful way... What I said was not even unfortunate, it was utterly bad."

    Edit: here's the actual email.

A new psychology test, what do you see in this picture and what do you feel?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 10:18 PM PDT

there's a lot of misconceptions going around in this sub about cyberpunk 2077 running horribly on current gen consoles that i want to clarify

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 03:21 PM PDT

There has been a lot of people continuously stating that current consoles are unable to run Cyberpunk 2077 effectively or the delay had to do with the game running horribly on console but this simply not true. I want to start off with the fact that CDPR have done numerous interviews stating that they've been optimizing cyberpunk 2077 on current console since development started https://wccftech.com/cyberpunk-2077-optimization/ "Oh no, actually from the top we knew we were developing the game for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. And we started the process of optimization right at the start".

Furthermore, in the recent investor call that took place recently https://www.pcgamer.com/cyberpunk-2077-is-ready-for-the-pc-but-current-gen-console-versions-still-need-work/ , Adam Kiciński specifically stated that "The game is ready for the PC and runs great on the next-gen consoles, and could be shipped on the scheduled date on those platforms. However, even though the game has been certified on the current gens by both Sony and Microsoft, some very final optimization processes for such a massive and complex game require a bit of additional time." The fact that the game has been greenlit by both Sony and Microsoft for current gen consoles speaks volume to the idea that the game runs fine on current gen.

Lastly, Philipp Weber had even came out and debunked rumor's that surfaced late 2019 about Cyberpunk 2077 not running well on current gen essentially saying that the rumors hold no truth to them https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2020/01/dev_responds_to_rumours_that_cyberpunk_2077_was_delayed_because_it_runs_badly_on_ps4_and_xbox_one

The delay that CDPR implemented for further optimization of current gen consoles just seems like a personal choice rather than a criteria that they failed to meet on console.

Is there a chance the delay is due to implementing Oodle Texture on the current gen consoles?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 01:59 PM PDT

Not trying to start a flame war here, just an interesting observation, and platform agnostic. What I'm theorizing is a benefit to both platforms.

I think there's a chance that the delay is due to the implementation some form of new compression technique. Oodle Texture was just announced a few weeks back and it's what boosts the PS5s throughput to 17 GB/s - https://technosports.co.in/2020/09/27/ps5-input-output-system-to-be-supercharged-bandwidth-goes-up-to-17-38gb-s/

Decoders are baked into hardware, so this is going to become the gold standard for compression on PS5.

However, RAD Games (developers of Oodle/Kraken) have also been quoted that Oodle Texture works VERY well on the Jaguar cores, more efficient than any other current compression method. This applies to both PS4 and Xbox One - http://cbloomrants.blogspot.com/2018/02/oodle-260-leviathan-performance-on-ps4.html

So, in order to make the game compatible with PS5 hardware and receive the boost clocks, games can be compiled into this new texture compression format. Since it runs so well on the Jaguar cores for Xbox One and PS4, everything likely gets a bandwidth increase (and files sizes go down). I could see them doing this. As a matter of fact, Sony has already licensed the tech for both PS5 and PS4; XBox One devs could license it independently as well. Not saying all of the boosted PS4/5 games are using the tech, but I did see some claiming that TLOU file size has been reduced by 50% (can't find source so maybe retracted?). If true it would make sense than some form of improved texture compression is at play.

It seems to me the new compression techniques this next generation could be providing big benefits to the current generation.

Sony first parties probably only just got this a couple months back and third parties are likely only just starting to pick it up. How much chance do you think that some of the Cyberpunk 2077 delay is due to this? They have to recompress and recompile it for PS5 anyhow, so might as well do the Xbox One and PS4 too. The implications here are a big boost in performance and quality for last gen consoles, might be worth waiting for.....
