Another German Interview translated for you guys to get something new while waiting for Night City Wire.

Miles Tost, Senior level designer working for CDPR

I know a lot of you guys are waiting for Night City Wire, some are worried, some are hyped, but we all are waiting for it. Here are some more informations from another German Website called NightCitylife.de

The last time I translated an Interview for you all, you really liked it and asked me to continue, so here are some more informations from the German Website nightcitylife.de. I will provide the exact link after the translation. For those of you who think here is a mistranslation again. Other redditors approved it: https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/comments/hepkzz/another_german_interview_translated_for_you_guys/fvsw460/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

In the following you will see the German Original text first, and the translation afterwards. The bold text is what has been asked by the Interviewer and the normal text is the awnser from the devs. I hope you all like it. Feel free to ask any question or give feedback. I hope you have a wonderful day.

Disclaimer: This is flaired as news because the interview is in German and most of you don't know it. Yes, this interview is a bit older but for many people it is still „new". I Hope you will enjoy it.

This Inteview is with Miles Tost, Senior Level Designer.

Kurze Frage: Einen Punkt wovon dann?

    Now the English Translation:

I haven't quite understood some things about hacking yet. One the one hand there are hacking-minigames, where time slows and which take about 20-30 seconds. On the other hand there is a quick-hack-skill. What should I do when I'm a netrunner and an enemie appears? I want to finish him without ammo or get away fast, how can I do that?

The hacking-minigame takes as much time as you need. Of course, there are time limited parts, to raise the difficulty. But in general, you have as much time as you need.

The idea behind this is, that this happens in a fraction of a second.

To prove your talent as a hacker…

Exactly, we have that for "Combat-Netrunning", how we like to call it, as well or at the quickhack-skill.

Quickhacking means for us to hack things from the distance, after we take over the enemies network.

That means, that we can scan things like a camera and see nodes, coming from the network.

One can see the connections in form of a line, and in case of the demo the node could possibly be hidden behind a closet, which you can clear out.

After that you do the minigame and then you can quickhack all the devices in that network, by checking the hardware from the distance in a scanner and checking your options.

The security camera for example can be put in a friendly mode, you can shut it off, or take it over to look around from the camera's perspective.

This works for other devices as well, where we are at the resource management. To take over the camera may cost a point, but to put her in friendly-mode may cost more.

Short question: A point of what?

That is still "subject to change" at the moment.

    Like "Hacker-mana"?

Basically you can imagine it like "hacker-mana", because it is connected with the Cyberdeck.

The more powerful your Cyberdeck is, the more "hacker-mana" you have available. I think we call it "Memory" so far, but that could change in a week again.

When we're talking about agility and skyscrapers: Is V actually able to climb facades from the outside, like Spiderman or King King?

Yes, V can climb up skyscrapers and we try to connect this with a special context, for example in a quest or side activity. But while climbing, you won't look like King Kong or Spiderman, more like… V.

The reason why I was asking is, that I believe, that we will move on roofs more often in Cyberpunk 2077, similar to the Game Mirrors Edge possibly. There was vertically an important part of the game, but we have mostly seen scenes from the ground so far.

The comparison isn't that bad and as V you will be able to get in dizzying hights.

I think Mike Pondsmith once said, that he designed Night City like Disneyland and that every district is like an individual themeland. That must have been a lot of different styles and influences, you had to face. Was there a topic for you that you had to deal with completely new for Cyberpunk 2077?

I don't know, if it was the biggest challenge, but one thing I noticed while I worked as level designer on The Witcher 3. It is actually true, that a lot of things are happening when switching from third person to first person.

When we imagine, that Geralt walks around in third person, then we aren't in a room when Geralt walks through the door, but when the camera comes through the door as well. That is why we needed to plan extra space, so nothing is in the way and the camera isn't arriving when Geralt aready walked against a table.

In Cyberpunk 2077 that isn't the case, because as soon as the camera enters a room, you are in it as well. That influences the way we design the rooms.

On the other hand V is way faster, significantly more mobile and has access to more driving possibilites than Roach. That changes the scaling of the world. When I ride on Roach for 10 seconds, than that is a totally different distance then when I'm driving straight forwards for 10 seconds with a car.

That is definitely palpable, when we sit together with the quest designers and we want to make a drive-filling dialogue with Jackie. You have to expand things in the game accordingly.

That is why it's hard for us, when we are asked for the world size or comparison with The Witcher 3. It is already hard to compare, because the metric is totally different.

When you - purely hypothetical – place a Street from Cyberpunk into Novigrad, that street would be easily two blocks wide and a car has a totally different turning cicly than a horse.

You already showed us in the demo with the animals, how V can hack the environment, to gain advantages. This provoked accidents with the training bot and the weight training bench, kinda reminded me of Hitman. Do such hacks always have a direct connection to the quest or can I do something similar like e.g. in Watch Dogs doing nonsense in public of Night City? Listening to NPCs phone calls, uploading my photo to a billboard, hacking ATMs, changing traffic lights to green?

Yes, actually! Like I said, the interactivity is really important to us.

All of those functionalitys with the robot are systematic, which means we can put them in other quests. We want to give you tools to be creative.

I am a very hygienic person and keeping myself clean in game it's really important to me... /s; but seriously now, there are a lot of silly and unnecessary questions around here, like people want to know the whole game before its even out and don't want to be surprised by anything while playing the game on your own. Lets wait peacefully for the game to come out and explore the whole universe with nothing to expect, that way i think you will get the best experience of the game. Let the game surprise you with what it will bring to your screen, don't try spoil your experience and stop thinking the game will be 1:1 with realism.

Cyberpunk 2077 was the 12th the most popular video game in May 2020 according to Wikipedia stats

    Posted: 23 Jun 2020 09:00 PM PDT

Short question: I have another translation of an German Interview ready for you guys, but I want as many people to see it as possible. Tomorrow there will be Night City Wire and all the news are gonna be about that.

    Posted: 23 Jun 2020 04:15 PM PDT

Should I make the translation accessable and visible to as many people as possible, because there are people who are not on this subreddit but are following youtubers who will talk about this. But when I publish it now Night City Wire could overwhelm the news and people might oversee this.

What do you think? Please try to be fair and not selfish, like do not say "i WaNt NeWs NoW. gO PuBlIsH iT!!!!", but think what is best. Thank you in advance. Edit: published it
