EGX 2019: What I could garner from the 45-minutes demo Posted: 20 Oct 2019 05:03 PM PDT Here are my passes, if that's not enough proof then feel free to take all this with a grain of salt. Plus my memory may be slightly sketchy regarding the plot details. The demo starts off with a short showing of the character customisation which includes the new, more sepia UI look from the more recent leaks. The gameplay (which is played live, at least that's what they say) is on Xbox One, and looks fantastic but is marred by occasional frame drops (work in progress, they remind you). It continues on with V, the protagonist, going into a church to make contact with a gang lieutenant of a local Haitian gang in what seems to be a poverty-stricken Haitian neighbourhood which was originally supposed to be an extensive urban residential development before the corps decided to pack up and fuck off. He sends you off to hunt down some agent dude working with a rival gang in a nearby abandoned complex, but not before he does hacky cyberpunk things to be able to see and hear through you. Moving on. There's a short bit of showing off of motorcycle riding on the way to the complex. By this point so far, most of the gameplay shown is Fallout-style dialogue dynamics. There's also gratuitous amounts of cyberghost Keanu. When V arrives at the complex, a bit of stealth gameplay is shown, plus more cyberpunk hacky plot twists. At one point, the bloke playing opens a demo-exclusive dev menu to switch classes from the male netrunner he was playing so far to a female solo, in order to show a more combat-oriented playstyle. He switches back to the netrunner after a fight, then back to solo again for a boss fight with hammer-throwing bullet sponge gang lady, after which there's more narrative, more dialogue with the agent guy you were hunting down. After a bit more plot the demo ends with you entering cyberspace to meet someone who had uploaded their consciousness onto the net. Most of the gameplay isn't entirely new stuff, the footage you've seen so far is already a good representation of what was at EGX. Some nice gadgets and weapons were shown plus an a-okay trading menu. At one point, there's a moral choice to spare the defeated boss lady but the player guy just executes her before the presenter gets to explain, I dunno if staged for humour or actual random humour, but everyone laughed. Watching attempted FPS aiming without lock-on on console was mildly painful. My take - game looked brilliant. Deus Ex meets Shadowrun as designed by Witcher devs, and it shows. Concerns include performance on consoles, bullet sponge enemies, slight janky feel in combat (although I believe it plays better than it looks). A lot more dialogue and plot hooks shown makes me feel more invested in playing it for the story now rather than only sending my roleplaying doll to shoot the ever-living fuck out of everyone. Speaking of which, the game's a bit heavy on the shooting gameplay. They insist full pacifist playthroughs are possible and stress dynamic, varied dialogue choices, but it's clear the meat of the gameplay is ranged combat, in the same vibe as Deus Ex: Human Revolution. That's all I have to say for now. It looks good and was presented well, although I imagine a game of this size means it's hard to do portraying it justice. If anyone has any questions, shoot. Posted: 20 Oct 2019 09:40 PM PDT Apparently, the entirety of the music featured in the game is either a CDPR composition or exclusively commissioned for the game. So, I'd like to hear about you guys, and your thoughts on this: Which artists would you like to hear in the game? Overall, what's the musical style you'd expect? What are your thoughts on -dubsteppy- bass music and the synthwave music that this style of game has been associated with? [link] [comments] | ||

Posted: 20 Oct 2019 07:11 PM PDT PC Gamers, what specs do you anticipate as recommended to run CP2077 on high settings? If you were building a PC for 2077, what would be your go to hardware? [link] [comments] |
