I messaged Cyberpunk 2077 on Facebook due to growing concern via Twitter, Reddit, and Steam discussion forms on the recent character creator changes.

How character creation works : the simple thread

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 03:11 PM PDT

First I'm not working at CDPR and my only intent with this thread is to provide as much clarity as possible on how the character creation is designed. All the information given in the thread are still subject to change (but honestly, it is very unlikely at this point).

When you first enter character creation, you will have to choose between two body types (a male body, a female body). These bodies won't determine how other people perceive your character gender, they will only determine how your character will look like in the ingame world.

Later, you will have the option to use beards even if you're playing a character with a female body type. Other option usually used for only a single gender will be available to both gender.

Then you will have to choose between a female or a male voice. If you're choosing the female voice, people in the world of cyberpunk (including V herself) will treat your character as a female. Even if you did chose the male body type.

Note that all the dialogues had already been reccorded when the decision was made to separate the body type from the gender. But due to the time and investement put in the dialogues, it was impossible to introduce gender neutral dialogues, or changes the pronouns used during the sentences made for female V or male V.

I hope this will help everyone understand the current situation, and I wish you the best in the street of Night City.

Answer to a frequent worry : You can play a V with a male body, a male voice and people in the world will treat you like a man (well, most people at least ; some will treat you like a meatbag but that's just how boosters are).

Answer to a false statement : there is currently no option for the npc to refer to you as a gender neutral character (you're either a female with a female voice or a male with a male voice but whatever you choose, your body type won't matter in the way npc perceive your character or in the way your character perceive themself).

To our dear (and very dedicated) team of moderators : I have the feeling this thread might be very close to what a leak is, but I can ensure you I have been really careful not to spoil any additional feature people at CDPR have been working on. All the information I'm basing this thread on have already been handled to the press multiple time. That fact that these informations had been sometime misunderstood leading to unproper statment is one of the reason some future players were angry. I deeply care about this game and I really hope calm and simple thread like this one might be of interest to help the comunity understand how thing works. If you still feel like I'm pushing to far, feel free to delete this thread.

What if, instead of flipping out about every little thing that they show us, what if we let them just make the game we know we're going to love?

At what point is it no longer taboo to criticize this game?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 12:33 PM PDT

Going off reports of those who seen the game claim that driving around seems clunky/arcady along with the idea that the streets look empty

There are claims that the gun play seems to be off

Then there is the recent news that there wont be any 3rd Person cutscenes in the game

So at what point is it "okay" to be honest, take off the super fan visors and just talk about the game's faults/concerns or possible faults/concerns?

We are at the quiet before the storm as tomorrow we get the long anticipated 15 min video. I have a feeling that after this video most of the comments here will be overwhelmingly positive (which is fine) while the negative or perceived negative comments gets flamed and downvoted.

I have a feeling this will probably be the last video we get until December possibly at the game awards.

So honest question, at what point will negative comments about the game here no longer gets treated as "low quality" or "trolling" or "whining" or what ever adjective you want to use to describe comments that are not all positive for CP 2077?

Full Disclosure: I have the CE on pre order and I cannot wait to get this game. I believe it will be 2020 GOTY and I hope it is. However that doesnt mean there arent any concerns that I have about the game.

    Thanks

EDIT: I'm not surprised by the downvotes. In fact it only just proves my point further in real time. I ask a fair and honest question and try to frame it in a mature way and yet it still gets down voted because it goes against the grain. Great for proving my point. Also I see a lot of comments about, "well how can you criticize if you havent played it...." Solid statement but I have a counter to that. How come that is never brought up when people praise the game or say stuff like GOTY contender and so on? How come nobody ever say, "How is it a GOTY contender when you haven't played it?" When someone says this game will be so great and will satisfy many gaming needs for them, nobody ever says, "How do you know? You never played it"

It seems like the whole "well you havent played it" or "it isnt out yet" argument is only used when someone is criticizing the game but not praising it....which again hits at the heart of my question.

Does anyone else feel like CDPR is going to nail it with CP2077?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 11:14 PM PDT

I feel like CDPR is just going to smash the hammer on the nail with this one. Everything (so far) looks so good and mindful. Of course there a few question marks here and there, but I fully trust CDPR on those. I can smell the 90+ ratings if the story is good and the gameplay feels crisp. The setting alone opens up for so many present topics on which CDPR can give their subtle spin on them or let the player decide how to deal with them.

Then you have the feature of meaningful choices which will not only increase immersion, but also make players think outside of their house or living room.

Also cyber ware, just how good is this? It's not the generic ‚oh a new shield, wow, let me put it on', it's a balance between staying human to some degree and just cyber-psychosis.

I have some worries for the feeling and traction of cars, but if it just comes close to what Rockstar did with GTA 5c, we'll be good.

Was there any talks about DLCs? Would be a missed opportunity if the didn't, don't you think?

    Cyberpunk to feature A.I characters?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 08:32 PM PDT

In light of the recent discussion about gender customisation, I was wondering if A.I humanoids (non human fully robotic) are going to be a part of the game, either as NPC or Player characters, being set in 2077 I can see it being a possibility, and I personally think it would be great to see.

Will there be a re-release of the 2020 books?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 01:28 PM PDT

I know that CDPR has already partnered with CMON for a card game, and I believe there is a new tabletop RPG in the works, but has there been any information about reprinting some or all of the 2020 material? I'd love to replace my PDF copies with hardcover versions.

Question about Body Modifications in the game

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 12:10 PM PDT

So I've previously read about how players will be able to Respec their characters in the game, but there's one thing I'm really curious about that I haven't encountered any information on. It's about body modifications, which arguably play a really big role in the game.

If someone gets say the Arasaka Mantis Blades weapon implant for their character, which is a pretty major augmentation, will they just be able to respec later and get regular fleshy arms back for V. Will respecing even include body modifications, or are they more permanent?

And finally, will getting a radical implant like the Mantis Blades potentially lock off other major arm modifications in the game? Or can we cram all available implants in the game into a single character or body part?

Personally, I think it would be really interesting if you have to carefully think about which implants you want, since others could potentially be locked off to you. Because that would only provide further incentive to start another playthrough.

I'd love to hear any opinions, or actual information, people have on this.
