Hey! This is our weekly Cyberpunk Lore discussion megathread.

With free talk (aka memes) being allowed across the weekend, discussions about the world of Cyberpunk can often be drowned out by memes & media posts across the weekend, so we hope this thread can help keep them going without being lost!

Apparently it was us fans who didn't want a longer campaign

    Posted: 16 Apr 2021 06:52 AM PDT

To the fans who complained that Witcher 3 was too long, are u happy now?

It was said the reason why CP2077 campaign is so short was because fans complained that Witcher 3 was too long. Idk why ppl complained about Witcher's campaign length, I personally would rather have a long campaign (on the same level of quality as Witcher) than a game that feels too short & now I'm a little upset that fans complained "the game they enjoyed playing was too long" or was that just an excuse given to us to make a shorter game? 🤔

Seriously, is a very long campaign so much of a problem that it justifies having a short one instead?

    Samurai

    Posted: 16 Apr 2021 10:09 AM PDT

Anyone else absolutely love the 5 songs they made for Samurai? My favorite has to be Never Fade Away, the chorus makes me want to cry lmao. There's a lot of emotion it, it really puts what mindset Johnny was in when he lost Alt, you can see why he tried to take down Arasaka. It's a shame you don't get to play Never Fade Away with Kerry and the others.

And then there's the score they play during emotional moments like moments with Judy, Panam, called Outside No More. You'd recognize it immediately, I don't know how they nailed the nostalgia feeling it gives off but it's spectacular.

Plus all of the songs on the radio, the combat music, it's all so fitting, which I guess isn't unusual for video games nowadays, but some games hit their target better than others.

I want to hear other's thoughts on Samurai's songs, and the game's music.

    Future on the ps4

    Posted: 16 Apr 2021 10:46 PM PDT

So I played the game the first week it came out and made it about a quarter of the way through and then picked it up yesterday and I think the ability to play it actually got worse. The bigs are now crippling and performance in gunfights is like I'm playing CoD with one bar of wifi. This is on the ps4 pro so I can't imagine what the regular ps4 is like. And am I the only one who noticed the only thing to do is main missions, side gigs, and crimes in progress, there's nothing else the whole thing just feels empty. I though when the game was being hyped it would be like red dead redemption 2 in a like future dystopia but instead it's just deus ex mankind divide with driving added. I want to give it a chance with the stuff they say they're going to add but if I can't even play it what's the point, do you think ps4 or ps4 pro users, keep in mind like 90 million people, are ever going to get a polished game to play or will they need to get a 500$ impossible to get ps5 that plays marginally better or a $2000 gaming pc to play it in its best version.

I like that such random scenes after the patch happen much more often, they give a minimal substitute for city life. Earlier, due to some errors, they practically did not appear in my game.

Some plot points that don’t seem to make sense

    Posted: 16 Apr 2021 02:29 PM PDT

So as the title states, there's a few points in the story which confuse me. Spoilers for one of the endings as well:

    1. So Johnny set off a nuclear bomb (or device?) in the Arasaka base 50 years before CP77's timeline. How did a literal nuclear bomb not destroy like all of Night City? I know it's mentioned it goes off in the basement but that must surely still cause a hell of a lot of damage to the whole city, yet it only ever seems to imply the building was damaged? Also how in the hell did Jonny survive not only being shot, but then also being in (or on top) of a building that was literally nuked?

    2. Why don't they kill Johnny? I know it's mentioned that 'there are worse fates than death', but like why shot him if not to kill him? Surely they could have plenty of people they could just take off the street to test on? Similarly why is it his engram that is put on the new prototype shard? Surely it makes more sense to use Saburo's engram?

    3. Why is V even needed by Hanako in the Arasaka ending? She literally has Saburo's engram, who gets the board to see her as the leader without the board having to believe V. She states that they all already know that Saburo wasn't poisoned and killed by Yorinobu, so why is his 'evidence' needed? I really don't understand why V was ever of need for them? Maybe to try and get their chip back, but why in the Coup (which they didn't really know about)?

    4. The whole 50 year time gap. This is maybe more plotholey than anything else (as I really think it wasn't initially supposed to be 50 years). But it just doesn't seem to make any sense. Rouge is what like 70/80 years old (I know it's mentioned people can live much longer, but I'm sure that's supposed to be only for the super rich)? Alt has been around for 50 years and no one has been able to contact her? Arasaka has had soul killer for so long but barely done anything with it?

    5. How big actually are Samurai? I swear it's mentioned they're more indie like and weren't absolutely massive at the time of the break up, yet Samurai stuff seems to be EVERYWHERE in NC, even quite big bands still wouldn't be that adored a full five decades later (kind of links back to the 50 year gap not making sense) I'm sure I've missed some obvious stuff addressing this in the story.
